Cows and Shooting. . . . Set off to Sugwas Court on the final day of the trip, parking at to base of the orchard in parking area one. found the venue to be a interesting challenge with a number of event full moments throughout the day. setting off up stream to the top end of the Sugwas stretch we immediately encountered a field of beef cattle. not ideal when carrying rods and bait buckets... on the other side of the field we entered the wooded section where the fishing i would suggest is more suited to the angler well adverse to a good pair of waders. the faster flow was packed with rocky snags and from the bank side in the trees unfortunately difficult to get the desired baiting positions. the water at the time was running low and fast with very little colour so we decided to head back down river to the lower end.
The lower section in the field to the back of the orchard was a superb spot with some really great looking deeper pools. the pegs had been kept well and with great access to the water. as the time went by we moved from swim to swim in hunt of the fish. it was once we were in the middle to lower end of the field (anyone fishing for the first time start here) that we were aware of our large hoofed spectators (who were not originally in the field). if your not overly keen on cattle then I would suggest timing is key when traveling to this venue.
After the crowd has dispersed we where able to better concentrate of the fishing. unfortunately between the two of us we were unable to muster any barbel not even a knock but my mate did hook into a chunky 5lbs chub. despite the cattle and the shoot in the trees on the opposite bank I would definitely return to this venue, specifically to the lower stretch, for a second attempt and getting a target Barbel.

A tough day on the river, with bright sunshine for the most part and little colour in the water. Excuses aside, what a beautiful place to fish! The lack of action barely mattered and I'll definitely be back.

Perfect conditions on a beautiful beat. Despite employing all known tactics upstream, downstream, dry, nymph, wet, teams etc we only managed 1 x 10" oos trout and 1 x 12" grayling. In hindsight we maybe missed a trick by not putting enough colour on the nymph patterns. Great to get out of the office to enjoy Red Kites, Buzzards, Kingfishers and the lovely herd of black cattle.

Caught 2 grayling at the upper limit of the fishery but levels were much lower than anticipated which made presentation tough. Decided to knock it on the head until it's had a good flush through. Amazing how dynamic this part of the Arrow is and can't wait to get back.

We had a fantastic days fishing, the barbel were really feeding up for the winter, caught from all along the beat, this just might be our favourite beat!!
