I had a fantastic day, caught lots of lovely brownies on a GRHE nymph between 4"-11" all released safely. It is extremely slippery to wade, I slipped and fell in and it wasn't pleasant to fish the whole day with my left side of the body wet. I would have avoided the wet situation if only I had the zip closed on my wading jacket. I would advise to wade with studded boot and wading staff. The weather wasn't great but the number of fish caught compensated it. I couldn't cover all the beat; 2 days fishing would be ideal if anyone wants to explore and fish this beat. I would definitely come back and fish this beat again.

River was high and unfishable all week until Saturday. It had cleared by Sunday and was at the perfect hight of 1ft 3". The grayling switched on and we had them mainly on dry flies. An excellent days fishing, we were over the moon.

A lovely silver 32" male, caught on a single hook F.C. went back well to carry on his journey. Also lost a bigger fish. Having caught the 2 yesterday on 'Greenbank', I packed up at 10am, feeling enormously lucky and let the other chaps have a slice of the action.

Very tricky conditions, low levels with minimal flow and the least amount of fly on the water I have ever witnessed. Even the reliable midge were in small amounts. the odd bwo and crane fly also and literally a few late mayfly. I opted for size 16 cdc bwo and brought 10 to hand from wherever there was a little flow. The other 3 took size 20 bead head nymph at the head of a deeper pool including a grayling of twelve inches and the largest trout at thirteen inches.. the remaining trout were all between 7-12 inches more around the 7 inch mark than the 12. The bigger fish were well hidden away today.

I started fishing the brook around 8am, had a couple of breaks but kept going until 1.30pm. Had a lovely morning, it's a beautiful little stream, but didn't catch any fish. Didn't see any either: I saw a single fry in the margins, and saw one fish rising near the stone bridge (couldn't tempt it! not sure if it was a trout or not) ... so unfortunately didn't catch a single one.
I fished from Cwm Farm, from as far downstream as I could manage (very friendly farmer by the way), it was overgrown after 1/2 mile or so, so I started fishing back upstream to the stone bridge.
I think the water may have been too low and clear? But I'm no expert, this is only the second time I've fly fished a river - so it could be just that I'm not doing the right stuff, or I scared them off by wading badly (although I tried to stay out of the water as much as possible).
(P.S. Allyson, thanks for your help with booking and getting me in touch with Tony Rees, I appreciate it). Greg
