We arrived at wonderful Wyebank to find the river with reasonable colour and pace. With stunning scenery, blue sky and sunshine we knew we would be sharing the river with plenty of boat traffic but apart from a couple of guys who capsized (twice!!) everybody was in good spirits.
In the morning we caught some cracking Dace and a lively small Brown Trout but the float fishing switched off as the river started to rise rapidly. The water was considerably colder whilst wading and within a couple of hours boats were replaced by tree trunks and debris...
A switch to feeder found the Barbel on the move in the slacker water and we enjoyed some steady good fishing on this lovely beat once again.

The river was in amazing condition, still quite low. By the bridge at the start of the beat was productive. Up to the area where the cattle go to drink wasn't as good, but after that there seemed to be a good head of fish. I caught on f-fly, klinkhammers and on small nymphs.

A perfect fishing day. A fish lost within 5 mins of starting. Another pull and pluck before a second positive take and a 6lber netted. Down to the next pool, right in the hot spot and a slow draw led to my second, around 9lb. All action to a #Bann Special. River quietended down around lunchtime and shortly after and shot up!! A stunning beat with nature abundant and scenery to savour.

The 1st time I have been. Saw one fish on arrival but that was it. In my opinion the beat is best suited for spinning as there is only really one decent pool with running water, the stones, dog hole etc. There is a good couple of hours on this little stretch but that's it after that. I left early afternoon as going through the same pool (if there are no running fish) is a monotonous task . The sheer volume of canoeists makes fishing very difficult as some of them were not sticking to the other side. Swans are an issue on the beat and perhaps the banking could be strimmed of nettles etc. along with markers informing of the start/end of the beat.
It was good to see the river but could you let me know if there are better beats suited for fly?
Regards Nolan Wall
(WUF note: Nolan - others have been quite successful using fly in most of the pools at Goodrich. There are many other beats in the Passport with " faster" water however)

Good water & nice beat to fish (although the incessant rain didn't bode well) but no salmon. Water too coloured and got worse during the day. Unfortunately, the small stream a few hundred metres upstream of the hut was discharging untreated effluent into the river. Smelt very much like a sewer overflow. I have reported to NRW, as an incident, but may be worth following up.
