Not sure why but Ty Newydd, on my visits, never shows much surface activity. Today was no different despite a big rise of olives about 4pm. Fish were feeding however and so a team of three wets, with a weighted one on the point, interested them well enough. Most fish came to an olive spider with a hint of rusty orange at the thorax. As to size; best trout was 10"' best grayling a little over. Lost one pretty large grayling when he threw the hook close to the net. Temperature was about 20degC and the Llanstephan gauge showed 18".

Fairly difficult fishing today, though there was some fly life about and the river had been freshened up by the rain. I saw several varieties of sedges, and large upwings hatching that I couldn't identify and a large hatch of iron blue duns in the evening. I was slightly disappointed not to be able to fish the bridge pool; there was a film crew and swimmers using it all day, right up to dusk.
I did managed to catch one thick set, 16", knock out trout. I didn't weight it but I'd guess it to be well over 2lb, which absolutely made up for the swimmers...and canoeists from the wedding at the big house. I also managed to catch a chub of about the same size; both fish were caught on a para tups indispensable.

A very warm sunny day; river up a touch with a bit of colour. We all fished the top field from lunchtime onwards, and bites came in 3 defined feeding periods, with the best naturally around sunset. All fish were 5 or 6lbs except one 7. All on pellet feeder.
Beware of dog walkers and their urge to repeatedly throw sticks into the river for their dogs to fetch. Some are apologetic, some are not ('you've got all day to fish here' and 'you can fish anywhere') etc. Best to be as obvious to passers-by as you can - not easy in the overgrown banks.
On a hot day you can refill your water bottles in the sports pavilion toilets.

Started fishing late morning (on a stretch I've fished several times before)...but struggled to find the fish - fished hard, and had one barbel early afternoon and then 3 in the last hour of light. All in the shallow water (just beyond the last salmon pool) between the ranunculous streamer weed. I fished 7 or 8 different swims over the course of the day - but it was tough fishing (I've been fishing all week on various stretches - only 2 were w&u waters, and had 34 barbel)
Did end with a 7lb 9oz right at last knockings though..and saw the back end of an otter when I arrived - let's hope that's not the reason the fishing has slowed.
