Another fabulous day on this premier beat. I fished at the end of the beat on previous advice from Colin the bailiff and if the water is low enough to give access to this part of the beat then it is stuffed with fish. The swim was full of chub which were a very good average size with 2 weighed in at 5lbs+. Any bait will do but the barbel all took pellet and I did lose a couple in the fast water with hook pulls but I think that's always going to happen. It was a lovely sunny day and the exclusivity offered on this really well maintained beat made this all very special.

Only fished for a couple of hours. Very low clear water and no visible fish movement although some signs of hatches of olives and sedges. No fish caught
All fishing by French nymph on a long rod with two nymphs. This technique was successful the previous day in similar conditions on the river Ebbw.

Fished from 7.30am to 9.30 pm. Fished very slow all day with only 1 2lb chub and 1 4lb barbel. Then as it was getting dark 2 larger Barbel one at 7lbs and one at 8lb were landed and another lost at the net. Normal barbel fishing with low clear water. They move and feed at night!

First visit to this beat, lovely setting. River low and clear. Both fished top end swims in morning with only a few chub to show. 1 small barbel from faster water by island then nothing. Moved again and had 6 big barbel and several chub in a couple of hours. Biggest barbel a nice double at 10lb 3oz, smallest around 7lb. Chub to around 4lb. Fish caught on pellet and boilie.

A steady start after a canoe capsized over our start area with a child going under but everybody was ok and fishing commenced. It was steady going with barbel coming to pellet and a few chub too.
Our youngest member proposed we move when it got quieter early evening and it paid off as we each caught more barbel from three more swims as the sun went down on yet another glorious Wye setting.
I had an otter taking a dislike to me as it swam past hissing after it spotted me whilst working the margins.
One of my party hates them but if you want to catch wonderful wild fish you must share the river with the wonderful wildlife. I love them even if it did go quiet afterwards.
The early evening bats were feeding well on the supply of mayfly hatching out.
Very enjoyable.
