All trout caught on dry fly (elk hair caddis, red body gold rib). Lovely stretch of water & hope to return soon.

2 Trout

We fished the Taf Fechan section from Vaynor church down to the viaduct, using a 6ft spinning rod, #14 flashy bead head nymph and a split shot. I had two tenkara rods with me, 12 & 13ft but these were obviously too long, thus the jimmy-rigged spinning rod with fly set-up. Tried casting upstream and drifting down and had a couple hits but found it easier to cast downstream and work the nymph back up. Landed two beautiful browns, 8 and 10 inch, and had many more strikes. It was actually really surprising how well the spinning rod/fly combo worked as I've definitely never tried that before. Was in awe of the beauty of this stream, and the incredible markings on these wild browns, not to mention their feistiness! Will definitely try to fish in Wales again in the future!

Great bit of river - but a mixture of hottest day of the year and lack of ability drew a blank.

The shady Honddu seemed a good bet to escape the heat and sun of the warmest day of the year so far! Low and slow as expected but practising ones best red indian tactics and watching and waiting bought good results. Eight to hand with a good number bouncing off too. Fish where in great nick and from 6 to 11 inch. Loads of fly life on the stones, mainly juvenile nymphs. Bodes well!

8 Trout

Probably the hottest day of the year so far and not conducive to good fishing but action from a dozen chub up to 4lbs and 3 small barbel. A nice brownie to finish off which took a liking to pellets.

Cracking day again on the Wye. 7 Barbel, best 7lb 6oz. Best chub 4lb 12oz and 1 eel. Thanks Wye and Usk.

Another great day on the majestic River Wye. Difficult conditions in the afternoon - very hot and the river quite low, but caught a couple of Barbel on Pellet and 4 Chub from different swims.

Fished a short spell late morning, early afternoon but it didn't really get going as it was bright and sunny so we took a few hours off and came back at 5pm and got settled in for the evening.
Bites came as soon as the feeder landed for the first hour and then steady for the rest of the evening. Most fish were very small with one or two going to 6.5lbs. Even so the small ones in the 1.5 to 4lb range were still fighting like crazy. Used medium sized elips pellets today.
Today's wildlife included sparrowhawk, kingfisher, tawny owl and ducklings sat in the landing net.

26 Barbel, 7 Chub

Despite very bright and clear conditions, floatfished pellet produced better results than previous day.
