River dropping but still very high, but becoming clearer. All fish caught on luncheon meat. Met bailiff at river, he was very helpful. This has become my regular second day venue after a stop over. A good stretch.

All caught on standard feeder & pellet tactics from beat 2 & 4. Vans got licked to death by the cattle when parking just inside field at best 2, only a couple of small scratches but wouldn't park there again. Nice looking stretch of the Wye.

Water clear and fairly low. Fish all caught on dry fly. The fish were small - between a quarter and half a pound - all were returned to the water.

The river was up by three and a half feet as indicated by the gauge in the river and racing by overriding most of the usual complex swims. I employed a huge amount of weight to hold against the flow and caught consistently though out the day. After catching five barbel and no chub in the first hour and a half I only managed to catch one more barbel later on in the day as the bully boy chub were pouncing on the bait. In retrospect I should not have used a feeder at all or stopped after a few casts as the constant feed just brought the chub into play. A couple of the barbel were in the 7 to 8 pound class and the chub were all sizes up to 3 to 4 pounds.
The other angler was a good companion for the day and I had a pleasant and informative talk with Colin too.

A pleasant enough day, overcast with an intermittent breeze. Not a sausage! Hardly a rise all afternoon, I tried everything but to no avail. The resident Kingfisher patrolling it's stretch above the weir certainly isn't shy. I hope it had more success than me. Unusually the indoor chicken farm(?) was very smelly.

Lovely, pretty beat (my first time here) but blanked, unfortunately. French nymphed for most of the day and lost 3. Not a lot of insect life about but maybe that's usual as the season progresses around here. Would like to come back and try again.
Thanks WUF.
