A couple of hours recce to check ease of access (limited mobility) but while river is only 5 min from car park, the first field is mostly unfishable, 'though there are a couple of bays under the trees, with some big trout lurking under the trailing willow branches. Sadly wasn't able to cope with walking beyond the first fence, and as there is no access at Talybont road bridge, 90% 0f the beat was just not available.

A lovely day to fish warm-ish with some humidity and occasional cloud. Mayfly were present and i hooked a few trout - although failed to land most.... Many grayling were rising, but could get a take. No sign of salmon but a wonderful beat to patrol.
Between the first parking space and second, there are a lot of holes in the track. I deliberately took a car with higher ground clearance. I suggest you do the same! Perhaps the owner could repair some of them..
(WUF comment: unlikely to be grayling on the Usk)

Slow start with nothing until well after lunch. Activity picked up from around 2.00pm Three caught on a black viva and floating line and the other of us caught four on a small mepps spinner. An enjoyable day in warm sunshine and fine views with nine Red Kites circling the lake.

Got out for 4 hours today, river at a good height, carrying a bit of colour but clearing. Feeling optimistic after a season and half of blanks but no wishes answered today. Fighting lots of demons with the salmon at the moment need to chill with some trout fishing on the small streams I think!

Plenty of fly life at bottom end, but not one rise seen. One trout of just a few ounces caught on nymph. I mmust find another beat to fish, as this one is no longer as "prolific" as it used to be...

The river was running high and coloured but the fish were feeding hard on nymphs. All were caught on a long leader set up with a sz14 copper head black French nymph on the point taking the most fish. About the same number again as netted were hooked and lost due to the fish slashing at the nymphs in the murky water. The largest fish was over 18" making it a surprisingly good day in what at first seemed like poor conditions. Luckily I could remember where to wade from fishing this beat recently in very low water though extreme care was still needed.

Beat:The Clywedog
Fishing:Trout (River)

Access to water variable, limited/poor in mid to upper reaches because of heavy vegetation and barbed wire fences: felt like an assault course at times. Water was coloured and slightly murky after recent rain but water level was fairly low, allowing wellingtons to be sufficient for wading most of the time. Conditions bright sunshine and warm with occasional gusty winds. Little surface activity by trout in evidence so used wet fly, barbless, and had a few takes in pools and runs just below pipe bridge, only one fish, 9" brown trout, was landed but was foul hooked near pelvic fin and was returned. Very pleasant day on the river but the fishing was hard work in these conditions.

Somewhat ambitious fishing today. The river was brown and the current too fast for wading. Fished all styles from 10.30 to 5pm with only one bite at 11am. Plenty of fly life but no fish seen except for a salmon which showed itself briefly. Disappointing as the Beat looked promising in good conditions.

Beat:Pontithel - River Llynfi
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
Slow few hours on the Llynfi. Plenty of fly on the water, olives, midge, mayfly, hawthorn, crane but not much in the way of rising fish. The heads of pools in the fastest water brought the better fish to hand with the largest trout 14 inches.
