Slow during the day, and tried several swims by the island, but eventually had 3 chub to 3lb free lining luncheon in weed downstream from faster water at top of the beat. Late evening the barbel came on to pellet. Size was good at 6lb and 7lb 8oz.

Another great day on Holme Lacey 3. Started at 4am at the lower end of the beat, picked up fish straight away on pellet feeder. Then waded out into the middle of the river to make casting a little easier. Weather made things much better - cloud and rain helped bring the barbel out of their cover a little bit more and encouraged them to feed. Brightened up in the afternoon and changed to a speci waggler and bites kept coming with constant feeding. Ended up fishing 3 rod lengths from the far bank free lining banded 8mm pellet a chub a chuck. Barbel to 7lb and chub all around 4lb. Beat looks lovely and is very well maintained by Colin.

All the usual ingredients contributing to another very enjoyable day. Started off with a bit of jungle warfare to get to my favourite swim. The nettles gave way in the end!
Fishing was slow but punctuated with just enough action to make it worthwhile. Started off with a 5lbish Barbel early doors but all was quiet for a couple of hours after this. A decent Chub on sweetcorn first cast after switching baits got me all excited for a while. Quiet again for a couple of hours then a lovely Barbel around the 8lb mark woke me up. Rather bizarrely I then reeled in an eel around the 1 1/2lb mark which had been lassoed by my hook length. To thank me for untangling it the blighter clamped his teeth firmly round my index finger drawing blood in the process. Feisty little so and so. Moved swims a couple of times and caught one more Chub.
Sadly had to pack up at teatime and would have loved to have fished on. No better place to be on a summer's evening in my opinion.

Went out for a couple of hours in the early eve. Caught two wbt, 6 - 8ins, on a blue klinkhammer. Fished upstream of the bridge starting at the farm. It is nothing like as featureless as the description leads you to believe - a series of rather entrancing pools. The river was low, there were a few rising fish and casting isn't easy! Surprisingly there were still a few mayflies coming off.

Started at first light and had bites straight away but no fish. Rain in morning did nothing to encourage me to stay past 2pm. Will be back later in the year for another go.

Nice day out. However no fish caught. Only one other person fly fishing. Too many worm, bait and power bait anglers for my liking to fish on fly. Shame really. Lots of litter too.
