First outing since August and it showed, a few tugs on small GRHE but could only convert one to hand. Hope my reactions improve for the rest of the weekend!

First time on this beat and it took me a couple of hours of fishing to brush up on my small river skills. So after hooking more than a few trees the roll casts started to work and a black tung beadheaded PTN fished on a greased leader caught me three trout and one OOS grayling. A cold day with no hatch to speak of.

Five trout between 4 inches and 8 inches all caught on goldhead nymphs. The fish seemed to prefer the deep holes. There were a few sporadic rises but no real hatch. Quite bright and sunny with good water clarity. Clearance work much appreciated.

A tricky day. Lovely weather but not much going on above or below water. Just a few LDOs and the odd March Brown about and only a handful of rises. I had no success nymphing but managed to tempt one 8" wbt with a Parachute Adams, safely returned. Missed another couple of takes. Water levels seem very low for this time of year.

Arrived at 10 a.m. with a hatch of olives all ready underway. March browns hatched at midday along with a huge hatch of grannom which went on for a couple of hours. Very few risers. Had pulls on olive, march brown nymphs and green sedge pupa at appropriate times but none landed except a runt of a salmon parr. A glorious warm and sunny spring day with temp nudging 70 degrees.

Beautiful spring day, if a bit bright for fishing. Still, when you're somewhere as lovely as this beat you don't get too frustrated. There were a few grannom coming off throughout the day with a much more sustained hatch in the late morning. The trout were feeding on the surface at this time and a couple were taken on a parachute Adams. All the other fish came to small weighted nymphs. Great to be back on the river.
