Guiding 2 inexperienced salmon anglers(mates actually) and started at Rock pool. Moved down to Wood stream and on below below the bridge. One salmon hooked just above wires on red/gold F.C. Fish showed on surface and spat the hook. Time for lunch at reopened Chain Bridge Inn- beer and food good. Fished below bridge for another hour and returned to Rock. No more fish hooked but fish showed below bridge and at Chine. I am intrigued at "No Topless Bathing" sign on gate. Why is this not mentioned in WUF beat description?
WUF note: We try not to be too prescriptive!

16 x grayling 6-16 inches, 4 x trout 12-13 inches, all on nymphs, Tungsten Hare's Ear and Pink Shrimp. Most of the grayling on the 11-13 inch range. Plenty of fly life around, but a speculative change to dry fly after lunch proved to be pretty much a waste of time. Lypole looking as delightful as ever on a mild day of sunshine and clouds - to be honest a day of continuous drizzle here would be pleasant

Fished from 10.00 am to 7.00pm, great days fishing, fish feeding all throughout the day. 7 barbel landed from 5 to 8.5ibs, (several lost ), 5 chub from 2 to 4ibs, not a canoe in sight all day. Fished the Church Stream pool at the far end of the island. All fish caught on halibut pellets. Very nice beat, but too pricey at £22 (+ £2 booking fee).

River was lovely and ideal.fished small tube flies on the advice of the very helpful Garry Evans. Caught nothing. Also fished Cadora backs 3rd Sept. Saw salmon there but caught none. Still awaiting my first salmon after 8 sessions. One day!

We arrived at about 10am and walked both banks looking for likely places for fish holding and access to the river. The Wye was up, fast flowing, and coloured. The beat is very short with about 500 yds of bank in total, and about five or six pegs on each side from which you can access the river.
From the start we were having bites and runs which kept the interest. My friend was taking great looking Chub of a 2 - 3lb throughout the day. Most fish were taking at the two pegs opposite each other just below the Foy bridge. At 7pm my fishing partner took another Chub as I was landing a fit, feisty Barbel of around 7 - 8 lb which signaled a fitting end to a good day. The locals were both friendly and interested in how our day was going. All fish fell to luncheon meat on feeder.

Bright sunlight and a brisk wind made the day a challenge. Water was colored but low enough to enable wading through long stretches of the beat. Managed to catch 2 trout on a dry (size 16 Adams) both 9", and both safely returned. Very sparse hatches throughout the day, and very few rising fish. A very enjoyable day on a great beat.
