Very pleasant day. No fish seen or caught but did see a very large pike sunning itself in Llangoed pool. Sadly fourth day on the Wye and still to see the illusive salar.

A great beat with some lovely runs and lies. Water was clear and fast and a great hatch of caddis occurred for most of the day. 2 x fish caught and returned. One on a dry caddish the other on a hares nymph. Too bright for the most part but a wonderful day.

Thanks for the hospitality David, I enjoyed your company. Lynn

Another lovely warm spring day so I decided to give chanstone a go. Really enjoyed this beat with a mixture of fast runs, undercut banks and very deep holes all of which looked likely to hold fish. Got in the river at 11.30am and slowly worked my way back up to the bridge without having to get back out. A few odd risers here and there and managed one 10" trout on a small klink and one more trout and one grayling on a #16 PTN both about 12 inches. Judging by the amount of fish I clumsily spooked I should of maybe caught a lot more, some of them looked to be big old lumps for the size of this river. Will definitely have another go here once I've had a chance to tie up a few more flies to replace the dozen or so I lost in the trees!!

Hazy sun. Warm all day - up to 20C. River clear and water temp. 10C. Started at 11.00am and positioned myself for march brown hatch, which happened for a short period at around 12.30pm. Caught 5 nice trout on dry march brown imitation including 17" fish. For the rest of day used dry parachute Adams with green nymph suspended and picked up fish all day until 5pm, catching a further 20 trout. A high proportion of fish caught was in the range 6-12oz, a good sign for the future.

First time on this beat and I thought I was running the Grand National as I cleared more fences than the horses will on Saturday.I only spent four hours fishing and fished duo as no fish were rising.
Took two six inch wbt in the run after the first hurdle up from the bridge in the first half hour. After successfully and safely negotiating the next few fences I came on a run with a trout rising so covered it with the second cast and brought a ten inch beauty to hand. Took an eight inch trout a little further on and missed one take from a cracking fish which looked to be the biggest of the day.
Thanks to Allyson at the Wye and Usk.

The passport states that wading is necessary on this beat, I found it impossible to enter the water safely! Nil seen or caught.
