No Barbel caught despite seeing group of 4 in middle of river from the bridge, must have continued upstream :-)
Managed to make a very enjoyable day with 14 Chub between us to ledgered and rolled meat and trotted sweetcorn. Plenty of fish rolling and splashing in shallows along far bank.

Second day on this stretch. Barbel in the same place on the last stretch. Lost nine as they were not feeding as confidently as usual. Good quality chub up to five pounds in excellent condition. Caught on meat, pellet feeder, cheese and sweet corn.

Caught out 48hrs ago we had a swish of water and it looked good for today. Grabbed a ticket but its already down to 0.13m at Pant Mawr. I know this water well enough with these levels and a very bright day to abandon after 90 mins. Didn't see the other rod on this beat, just a fisherman on Upper Clochfaen - why do I bother to buy tickets! Will try again on a better day.

WUF note - Anglers are advised to buy tickets as it allows an angler to fish the beat legally. Please contact the Foundation by telephone immediately should you see signs of poaching activity on WUF waters.

River was apparently up a few inches and had a good tinge of colour to it. Flowing faster than I was expecting as well. All the action was after midday, with a lost fish after lunch (inconsiderate canoeist was partly to blame)and then nothing until 5pm. The swim (at the bottom of the section)then came alive although by this point I'd used the majority of my bait so couldn't fully take advantage. Best fish went 9lb 10oz with a 5lber soon after. Feeder fished pellet/groundbait mix with a trimmed down fishmeal boilie well soaked (i.e. for several days)in Korda Spicy Squid Goo. "Gerron the goo lad!" the guy from Korda told me. Seems he was right.

The rain at the weekend brought the river up a few inches and it seemed to stir the fish up a bit too. Meat, corn and pellet, trotted and ledgered all took fish, from the faster water at the bottom and from the slower sections near the bridge. A very enjoyable day.

Great to be back on this extremely well kept stretch of the Wye. Thanks for all the hard work Colin.
Barbel harder to find than usual. Finally located them at the bottom end. River low and coloured, successful bait was meat and pellet feeder.

Beat:Gromain & Upper Llanstephan

Fishing:All Species (in season)

First time on Gromain and it is a beautiful place. Heard the warnings of deadly wading which meant I acted with caution, but even with a bit of water coming through and a bit of a hangover found it OK! Clearly an excellent salmon beat, there are a lot of trout and grayling here too. Caught fish everywhere, actually stopping fishing in a couple of areas where I was getting constant fish around the 6-10 inches mark. Best fish of the day being a 1 and a half pound Grayling. All on deep fished Heavy Nymphs.
