Very little seen until the very end of the day when trout rose as the sun really begun to set. Fished the top pool and persuaded three to take a hares ear fished in the surface film, the best being a bit over two pounds. Saw a couple of considerably larger fish make a brief appearance almost on dark.

Fished with the excellent guide/instructor Chris Price and caught the vast majority of 12 trout on the trusted New Zealand style, although thankfully did manage to convince a couple to take small emerger dries. Rising trout few and far between though. Finished the day with a fine trout of about two and a half pounds on a PT gold head in the pool below the bridge.

River coloured even in bright sun, visibility less than one foot. Spun with bright yellow and orange lures for 4 hours, the max time my back can take. Maybe next visit will be fly in lower clearer water which I can do all day. Any fish had their heads down.

Tough day, sunny and water was a bit high but clear. Fished 10am - 8pm. No hatch to speak of and no action in the white water either. Left a bit disappointed. Well worth another visit though as the beat is very inviting, with varied and interesting features. No doubt holds many (elusive) trout.

The rougher runs were fished with nymphs and produced most of the trout. Two good fish were caught on a small olive dry, they measured 28cm and 35cm.
The evening rise was eagerly awaited and started around 9.35pm. Unfortunately it lasted for only about five minutes. This was the same throughout the stretch!

A lovely looking piece of water and odd fish in it, but the evening rise was really disappointing. Most of the fish that the lads caught were on nymphs in the fast riffles.

Fished with grey wulf mayfly. Rose plenty of fish and missed all but one which then transferred the fly to some tree roots.

Very warm day, with zero cloud cover so the fish were easily spooked. Limited fly activity until late in the day when the fish started to respond to sporadic hatches. Hard work, but we were rewarded with some beautiful trout to 14 inches - all returned safely.

My first time on this beat and just as I thought, being close to town there was many dog walkers, kids swimming in the river and people everywhere.
