Another days guiding on this fantastic beat. The two anglers I was guiding caught 8 barbel between them, the largest being a 10lb 2oz fish. Two other 9lbers were caught during the day.
Not as good as yesterday, however brilliant fishing for these guys. Think they might return again!

What a difference. Yesterday G drew a blank because he wanted to use a rolling meat method. Today he listened to the my advice and used the pellet and feeder method. Right from the start he caught barbel after barbel. He had 18 in total to 8lbs 12oz.
He has just had the best fishing day of his life. However, he didn't catch too many chub which is what he wanted. I don't know you just can't please some people!

I fished the bottom beat, it was sunny, the water low and clear. I managed 1 BT at around 11 inches on a caddis pupa in the faster water.

Bright and sunny, perhaps not ideal for this open stretch of water. Tried pellets over hemp, s/corn, bread & paste but only pork provided bites. Barbel, largest at 8lb 10ozs in superb condition. Soporific state (mine) repeatedly disturbed by a number of salmon crashing about. Pleasant day in superb surroundings.

Sunny in the morning, cloudier in afternoon. Air temperature, low 20's. Water temperature 14/15C. River low with bottom covered in slimy weed (algae?) in slowest stretches. River in need of a spate.
Arrived at 11am to localised hatch of olives. Caught 5 good trout on dry Parachute Adams, best 20 inches (2lb 14oz)- a superb fish and best from the Usk. River became dead in mid afternoon.

Cold start to the day but the weather soon warmed up. Best barbel was 9lb 11ozs and biggest chub was 5lb 1oz. All fish were caught on feeder using various combinations of pellet.

On our first visit to The Creel, we were impressed with the setting and appearance of the beat but had difficulty in finding safe swims down the very steep banks. It appears not to be yet fully established as a coarse fishery and the places we fished would be dangerous in wet or high water conditions. It was a beautiful day, however and once fishing we enjoyed our catch of six barbel to eight pounds and a bag of lively chub and were amused by the comings and goings of the hundreds of Canada Geese. The wild side of the Wye at its best?

Weather overcast, with drizzle in the morning, sunny through afternoon. Wye was in good condition after recent rain, fishing excellent. 12 chub caught, all good size, four well over 5lb. Barbel were harder to find had to move around and eventually bagged one of 8lb.
All were caught on hair rigged halibut pellet with ground bait feeder. Fishing did die as bright conditions moved in. Fished 7am to 5pm. Very good days fishing and thanks to Terry for his sound Advice.

Fished from 10.30am to 4.30pm. Arrived in very wet conditions with a nasty down stream wind for the first 2hrs . Nothing on any type of lead/tungsten/bead head nymph, no rises. Small amount of fly life. Worked upstream to top pool, river fast flow very clear. Tried a reverse parachute dry fly, long body and was rewarded with a magnificent wbt of 16 inches with Kype nose. 3 casts later, a grayling of 18 inches, approx 2lbs. Both fish from the same run. Other fish all to the same type of fly. What a great day!
