Dozen or so to hand in the couple of hours fishing. Few to size 18 CDC emerger, the rest to size 22 bead head nymph. Very low water moving at a snails pace. All were taken in the faster oxygenated water. Stealth was key where possible.

My first trip to Bugeilyn and the previous return notes are definitely right about the need for a 4x4 to access the water and the need to be careful walking across the boggy ground adjacent to the lake. Started late morning and ended about 4.30pm on a bright day with increasing gusty wind, which definitely tested my limited casting skills and weight 5 rod. I lost a fish early on on a bibio and must have missed about ten sharp tugs from the feisty trout. Eventually landed a fish on a black buzzer. I met a gentleman from the club/syndicate who also fishes the water as I was leaving and he was generous with his advice. It is a stunning location and so I will return, hopefully with a bit more confidence after the advice, in the future.

Having fished Boys Rocks previously I was confident of success there despite the low water and blazing temperatures. However, the first thing that I noticed on arrival was the absence of the large Willow tree that used to overhang the water on the opposite bank which gave morning shade and cover to the shoal of Barbel that lived there. Three hours later without a bite confirmed that they were no longer resident. My blank was saved at 8.30am with a 6lb barbel from the faster water. I moved down to the cattle drink for few hours with only an eel showing any interest. I could not stay for the evening which would probably have been more productive.

Fished lower stretch, mainly in the shade, but mid-day hours (left at 6 pm). River fairly low but running fast, masses of minnows in the shallows. one trout seen below the water and three or four rises, but our small brown floaters did not tempt them. A Heron spotted several times. No catch but nevertheless a great day out on a beautiful stretch of river. Will come again (in May!)

As previous day on Courtfield the river was too low and the weather too hot, extremely difficult especially with the numbers of canoes and swimmers!! Fished the Saturday and Sunday morning for 1 chub about 3lb. It was good to meet Rudi and break the day chatting about fishing. He was very helpful, a really nice chap!!
