Beat:Abergavenny Town Water

Fishing:Trout (River)

Lovely warm evening but no movement until 8.30pm when a small hatch resulted in plenty of rising fish. Two caught at 12" and 14" with two others escaping the hook, one quite the acrobat. Small yellow dry proved to be the colour of choice. All went quiet again at 9.30pm. A fun hour.( All fish returned).

Very hot and sunny day at mhc, river painfully low and needing rain. First of all I would like to say what a great job has been done to accessing the lower end of the beat. It always use to be a bit of a battle getting to the castle end, not anymore! Struggled to find any fish willing to accepted a bait. Ended up finding some in the peg at the end of the concrete track. Had six barbel 4lb to 6lb, strangely enough all caught between 3pm and 6pm, by far the hottest part of the day. Earlier in the day I picked up a few chub from the top of the "Rope". All fish were caught on either float fished pellet or free lined pellet.

More accustomed to fishing the Welsh Lakes with Black Pennel, Bibio and Zulu so this was an experiment for us.
Found casting difficult through the undergrowth with my little Hereford Herbert Hatton 7ft cane rod, particularly the top section of water. Even tried the 'catapult' cast to no avail. Anyway had a bit of fun and in the pub for 1pm.
Anyone travelling from Kidderminster side can recommend the Temeside Inn at Little Hereford, right by the river Teme. Robinsons Cider on draught. Many thanks for enabling us to try this stretch of water.

Had a great day guiding 2 clients on Courtfield and Wyebank. Some large barbel were landed at Courtfield to 9lbs 8oz. It was one of the hottest days of the year so fishing was difficult. Even so, Wyebank fished really well, ending up with 7 barbel and 11 chub to 5lbs 12oz. Don't know where these large chub have come from.
However great fun on both beats. Thanks to Don and W&UF.

Only fished for a couple of hours before the sun, heat and lack of any shade got too much for me. 12 roach caught. Several carp were cruising near the surface but not interested in feeding.
A pair of adult cormorants were swimming in and flying around and over the lake throughout the time I was there. I also saw a group of 5 birds swimming into bankside vegetation that from a distance looked like they might be young cormorants.

Arrived on the river at dawn to find it very low and clear. A misty, still and humid morning but looked really good. My father caught a chub and a barbel before I even managed to get my rods in the water, however, things slowed right down and I caught a further chub mid morning. A nice 9lb 8oz barbel was landed late afternoon followed by a good chub. We fished the Boat Pool which probably has the easiest access anywhere on the Wye but lost a lot of tackle on snags. A nice section of Courtfield which produces but be prepared to lose gear.

Lovely Stretch, shame that so much of the River was inaccessable due to thick undergrowth. Steaming hot day made for very hard fishing but managed 1 Barbel on Pellet.

WUF note - This beat has 9 cut swims along it's length. Please see the beat gallery on the website beat page. Undergrowth has been allowed to grow along areas where the banks are too high to fish from. Anglers are encouraged to cut their own swims should they wish to fish outside of the areas prepared.
