Lovely venue, very pretty lake with easy access.
Fishing was a little slow but conditions were not ideal, clear skies with bright sunshine all day & a cold wind from the north.
Between us we managed 4 roach, 2 common carp of 8lb and 11lb and a 12lb mirror using ledger/cage feeder tactic with Corn & lobworm as hook bait.
I will definitely return to this lake soon.

Plenty to hand today, between 15 and 20 in total. All took Olive emerger between 11am and 2pm. A solid hatch began at 1pm and the stream was alive for an hour with some heavy trout brought to the net, largest 16 inches. All were above 11 inches so very enjoyable. Mayfly were peeling off midday but trout were fixed on Olives. Quite early to see Mayfly on the Escley, it's usually the last week of May or the first week of June.

Fishing:Trout (River)

12 x trout 8-16 inches, spiders. A mostly cloudy day as a weak front came over, with a very cold and blustering downstream wind. The river is still pretty full. Nothing at all seen hatching for most of the time (although the previous evening, the A40 at Monmouth bridge was covered with migrating grannom, on their way upstream or to Gloucester, not sure which). However, it seems the trout were scanning the surface too, and a few modest ones were prepared to come up for a team of spiders fished blind through the runs. Mid-afternoon, a very few march browns came off and I was able to get a couple of decent fish on a pool tail.

First time on this beat took a solid grayling bout 1 1/2 pound just after arriving then not a sausage. Plenty of olives but nothing rising. Shame nice beat.

3 fish of 6-8 inches, 4 of 10-12 inches all in really good condition. All fish on sawyers nymph from the bodies of pools early on and by 1pm they were coming from the necks. Not more than a handful of olives hatching. Beautiful little river.
