Bit optimistic for salmon given low water but great fishery to visit. Lovely spot and given some more water would be fantastic. Very friendly people running the caravan park where I parked. Enjoyable day with switch rods, trout and grayling to port and starboards size 12 and 14's. Will be back here later in the season if possible.

Great evenings fishing. Lost two others.

Quite chilly when I arrived 12C . Left the sunshine behind in Cwmbran. Fished a team of spiders with a ptn on point, no luck. Put a gold beaded hares ear on point and caught 4 trout in the same run, 2 around 12 inches and two tiddlers.
By midday sun was blazing. Learnt to access the top half of the beat by wading across and not abseiling down the left bank!
Desultory hatch, no fish seen rising so left 2pm.

Extremely hot day which made for a beautiful day on the river but a difficult time fishing. 2 small trout caught on nymph. Waited for an evening rise/spinner fall but it did not happen.

Very bright day. Began fishing 2pm. Very little sign of fish. One 8" brown caught & returned. Upstream dry flies or nymphs.

1 rainbow trout caught on worm. Also 6 perch. Seemed to beat the trout to the bait.

A short, shallow stretch with the two pools the only areas worth targeting in the low water conditions. Accessibility is good and there is a pub at the head of the stretch (nice) but it acts as a lunchtime stopover for many canoeists so if canoeists put you off your fishing don't book this stretch.
Could only find one barbel but lost count of the chub up to 4lb.
I prefer other stretches to this but would fish it again in higher water.

Caught nothing on fly, only small fry on spinners. A nice days fishing though, it was just too hot I think.
