1 x grayling 13 inches, 7 x out of season trout 8-12 inches, leaded wet flies and bugs. We struggled to find the grayling I'm afraid, although what looked like post-spawning trout were very much in evidence. Nothing really wrong with the water or conditions. One coloured salmon showing.

Slow in the morning, picked up midday, all grayling hard on the bottom, most pools and runs had grayling of about 10" to 15".

A lovely day, fished from 9.30 a.m. until 3.30 p.m. Cloudy, warm and still. River gin clear at 0.42m on the Cilmery guage. So we started full of expectation! However, we only managed to catch one OS trout of about 1.25lb and a grayling of about 14" on bugs, and two grayling (14 and 17") on a small dark olive Ducks Dun while a few fish rose to a sprinkle of hatching olives between 1 and 2 p.m. Saw five salmon (8-10lb?) and one very healthy looking mink. A perplexing day - where were the ladies?

1 coarse rod,1 winter grayling fly rod. One of those Wye days when it did not happen, perhaps the water colder or the continuous overcast sky? 1 mini grayling in morning and three 1 to 2lb chub late dusk and 1 oos WBT of around 2lb late afternoon to the fly rod. 1st time at Gromain, its big wide water and tricky wading at current level and I had a hard time finding a swim to float fish with good presentation required in this very clear water. Best swim for float found end of day off board at top end of beat on hut side, deep and a bit of gravel around, it produced the chub. A good day to be out though.

40 x grayling 10-15 inches, 6 x out of season trout 8-12 inches, long trotting. A dark, warm day, with the river now at close to ideal levels. It's funny, isn't it, how grayling of a particular size turn up on any given day. These were mostly smaller ones. Only a few weeks ago we were fishing the dry fly and remarking how many 16 inch grayling were on the beat. They all seemed to be that size. Not today.

River had dropped considerably since our last visit a few weeks earlier, and was gin clear. My guru fishing partner caught one nice grayling around a pound and a half but it was tough going with no signs of any fish around whatsoever (apart from one leap from quite a large salmon in the shallows which caught us by surprise). Lovely day out on this great stretch of the upper Wye, thanks very much!

Pleasant day trotting maggots down this lovely stretch of river. No grayling but loads of brown trout. Stopped fishing just after lunch as wasn't happy catching so many out of season trout!

Seemed like a perfect day, overcast, not too cold, no rain or wind. Used a number of methods, NZ, single nymph, lots of different dressings and depths....did not catch a thing, neither did my mate.
However, saw 3 5-8lb salmon leaping about out of the water, not sure what they were going for, but maybe they had better luck than me.
This stretch of the Irfon is beautiful and full of potential but alas, not today.

Late afternoon from middle of Leggs Meadow in 1 hour session, 6 Chub from around 2lb to a weighed 5lb 7oz fish with large, obvious scar on flank. Float fishing with pin and light terminal line as water very clear (at last!) and old bread and cheese pinched around hook. Fish in excellent condition and form. River in great form for this type of fishing and anticipate pike should be on move at dawn and dusk.
