River flow about walking pace, with a good colour. Overcast and mild. Was here 2 weeks ago, very low and clear with a lot weed coming down the river. 2 blank days! Started well with a chub first cast. Had another 2 chub and 2 barbel. Chub approx. 3lb. each. Barbel 4lb.15oz and 7lb.11oz. All fish caught on halibut pellet.

Influx of extra water had put the barbel off we think. Chub were very obliging once we got the feed in. One lovely water and will be booking again next year for sure.

First time fishing on the upper Wye, and what a lovely place it is too! A chunky trout of around 1.5lb got the heart racing for a few seconds but no sign of any salmon. Lovely Fishery, and if we get the right conditions next season, I will be back.

Arrived around mid day. There was a fair amount of cloud cover and with the recent rainfall pushing through the river had a good level and colour. Thought this would be perfect conditions. Started off about half way down the beat on larger 16mm halibut pellet with closed feeder feeding a few smaller pellets. Also tried paste but neither worked. No bites so moved down to just above the bridge. There was a lot of weed in the faster flowing sections. Tried lob worm but this didn't work so after speaking to one of the other really friendly fisherman there, hairrigged a size 10 hook with 12 and 8mm halibut pellet and a mix of the same in PVA bags. This produced the only fish of the day, a chub at about 4-5 pounds. Moved back up the beat to try the concrete plinth just after the entrance until dusk and had nothing more. This is a great stretch of river and I can imagine that when it's working its great, just wasn't the case today.

Started fishing at dawn at approx 7am. Set up one rod to leger worm and had 3 fish within 20 mins. Had a few other bites and one further fish. Got very wet in the rain even though I hid under a tree. Nothing then for an hour and a half, although I could see anglers to my right catching but I did not want to intrude on their space. Managed one more by retrieving slowly to induce a take. Packed up at 10.45am because I was wet and cold. Despite the rain I really enjoyed being out in the fresh (and wet) air and catching is a bonus.

Arrived at dawn. River at 1.02m dropping slowly, colour just fishable. Had a few hours below bridge, saw 2 fish show well below the cables. Then spent a most enjoyable few hours with J.H. from Monmouth (a successful and very regular rod on the river) and osmosed a wealth of knowledge and tips from him.
Fished Rock for a few hours with just one hard pull on the dangle, but no other fishy contact. Thunderstorm dropped a pile of debris in the river. After hooking a leaf on six successive casts, retired defeated for a warming cup of tea with J.W.
