Arrived late afternoon and saw a fish rise before I had cast a line, caught 1 trout about 12" at the top of the beat on a gold head pheasant tail. Had another take just above weir which I missed, good couple of hours.

Little insect life and nothing rising. Fished all day on a weighted nymph and no sign of life. Access to the bottom left bank part of the beat is a bit overgrown with brambles. Good to see fry already in the sunny shallows.

Beat:Escley Beat 4

Fishing:Trout (River)

A few hours in afternoon. Water quite coloured. A few fish making splashy rises to something very small. Pricked a couple with tiny black klinkhammer and 16 tan klinkhammer at start of beat. As I made my way upstream, no fish rising, no olives hatching so fished light olive gammarus size 12 to good effect with three trout from 6 to 13 inches and two surprise chublets.

Split the two beats between us with 2 rods on one and 1 on the other. Very cold downstream strong wind but river clear although quite strong flow. No signs of fish or fly by lunch time but the afternoon rods on the Upper beat did very well. Fishing bead head nymphs they contacted several outstanding fish at the following approximate weights:
3 lbs. 2 1/2 lbs. 2 lbs. 1 1/2 lbs and 1 lb. All fish in absolutely superb condition. Photos will follow!
The WUF guide book says that there are not many fish up there but what are there are good fish - very accurate description! An outstanding day in terms of catch with my companions having traveled all the way from Dorset leaving the beat as very happy men.

Very cold westerly blowing made the lake a bit inaccessible (bit like the on site toilets). Caught and returned 1 small brown taken on a black hopper and kept a nice 15" rainbow caught on a Montana. Found that the suitable bank fishing for fly fishing is poor. Also, lots of litter everywhere.

Unfortunately the river was heavily coloured and in flood following several days of rain.
We persevered given the distance traveled and the booking commitment, but in all honestly it was a complete wash out! No fish observed moving or any indication of being present.

I caught 4 fish all about 1.5lbs. The water looked ok, only bad comment I have is the noise of chainsaws and trees falling disturbed me quite a lot, other than that not a bad days fishing.

Driving from London I reached the place later than I hoped, river was high but looking ok but it didn't last, levels increased and water got brown. Not risking wading I had problems accessing the river. There were no sign of gates and barbed wire fences everywhere. I like the Wye but probably this was the first and the last time I will go to Llanguring. Of course no fishes caught.
