6 or 7 trout to a mixture of nymphs and dries in low water on a very hot and bright day. Not much action in the heat of the afternoon but a few fish started to show as the light began to fade. Many thanks WUF.

11 WBT caught. Largest was 8", all on Adams Para or green Klink. Many small fish brought up to fly. Good fun! Very overgrown in parts and particularly below the bridge where you park but worth the trek to bottom of beat where I caught my first three fish within my first six casts. Quite tricky access in places as you need to get in and out of stream to get past fallen trees. In that respect not an easy wade. Beautiful day, light breeze, plenty of insect including the odd May. Didn't try Eithrim stream or the Shoemakers pub - saving those for next time.

Hergest Court is an excellent beat for two anglers sharing. With parking midway it enabling one to cover the lower end whilst the other tackles upper section. Agree a time, meet for a break, compare excuses then switch over. We found the river in good condition with plenty of insect life but at no stage was there anything except the occasional, isolated rise. MT fished with weighted PTNs and GRHEs ending the day with seven fish. NC encouraged six fish to come to either a Parachute Adams or a Blonde Wulff. The fish, ranging in size from 5” to 11” were all fine, beautifully coloured specimens. A great day out.

Again lots of fly life but very few risers. Fished afternoon to 7.30, but no sign of an evening rise, got quite cold in the wind when the sun went down. Successful on the faster runs and rough water, caught 7 between 7 and 9" and missed many on para adams and olives. Bigger fish must have stayed deep in the pools, could not entice them to rise. Looked at Lower Stanton on the way home but no sign of an evening rise there. Very enjoyable day though!
I parked where the map and directions advised, when I got back there was a stroppy note on the windscreen saying I had parked illegally on private land etc. Pick your spot carefully!

Another early start and one fish hooked at 6am on a Willie Gun pattern tungsten tube-fly tied by Tony Frew on a sink-tipped floating 'shooting head'. Weigh-netted at just 8 lbs but I was more than happy with my first fly caught Wye Salmon and can only imagine the struggle to land my previous, lure caught, best on such fragile gear! Again the day came to an abrupt halt, this time at 8.10 am, with the arrival of the canoe armada. It would appear that the 'fishable' season is now reduced to just a month or two in spring and autumn; that's just 28 days for those who have to work. And they wonder why the catches are down? Maybe it's because no-one is fishing.......

Very clear water on what was a lovely bright sunny and hot day that meant fishing was hard work. After a midday snooze and a visit to a pub for a cooling beer, waited for late afternoon / evening for a superb mayfly hatch which made up for the slower day. Only wish I had had more mayfly patterns to keep me going. Looks like the Chainbridge pub is undergoing a major refurbishment which could mean a rather busy environment with a pub / caravan park one end and another caravan park the other end.

River low and clear. Beautiful day but hard due to river and bright blue skies. 2 trout caught on heavy Czech nymph in fast runs. Gorgeous beat.
