Stunning bit of river, especially when viewed from the the little park by the rapids. River, weather looked good but blank on the day. Spinning failed to produce any sign of fish; fly at least produced contact with something 'substantial' (but unseen) which was lost after 10 minutes or so. Concentrated on area below house where there is some very good access (esp, for spinning) though adjoining Wyebank stretch offers easier fly access). Many thanks to Don and his colleague (sorry, didn't get your name!) for the guidance, would definitely try Courtfield and Wyebank again.

Spinners trickling off the flats from late morning. Caught two trout, 8 inches and 12 inches on Klink and Kites Imperial but missed/lost others. Bit rusty, not fished for long while. Attractive beat - fished between bridges, will try other end next time...which will be soon!

Excellent days fishing on the Usk. 7 Brown Trout caught and released. 3 Dry Fly; 4 Wet Fly.
River conditions ideal after the previous night's rain. Weather overcast but still warm enough to instigate a good hatch in the late afternoon.
Overall a great experience aided by an excellent recommended WUF Guide in Oliver Burch.

Fishing:Trout (River)

I was fly fishing and the river was quite full and there appeared to be a lot of silt downstream, maybe due to the fact that some maintenance work was being carried out on the bridge. Also some of the areas outlined in the map were inaccessible. I was staying at Vanilla Cottage near Chain Bridge which is an excellent base.

Lovely stream with easy access. A cool misty morning with nothing rising so I fished nymphs. I caught two wbt approx 8 inches long on ptn and lost two others. Donated a few flys to the trees but all in all a good few hours fishing!

Arrival at the river and saw fish rising in the streamy runs. Water clarity was excellent.
