First time for me at this beat. Good flow to the river but conditions very difficult (cold and windy) still managed 5 fish to dries (klinkhammers), one to pt nymph. Rising fish in pockets with a late afternoon hatch. Approx fish size 1 x 14-15 oz, 3 x 8-10oz 2x 4-6oz. Good fun so will be back again hopefully in more favourable conditions. Some good fish rising in some unreachable parts of the beat.

23rd and 24th May 2013, 2 rods. We fished 4/5 hrs both days, morning, afternoon and evening. Marginal weather, very windy and bright sunshine followed by heavy showers on both days. River level normal but a little coloured. Despite the perfect setting we caught no fish, we saw only 3 fish jump over the two days and no rises were seen. Otter tracks over the whole length of the beat gave us our excuses. We saw no fry in the margins except for one fish about 1 inch long. Methods used, up stream and down stream nymph fishing with various gold head and hares ear nymphs on the point with a wet black gnat on the dropper.

Atrocious, strong and very cold north east wind. However, did not feel cold, as wearing six layers of clothing! In between gusts, we did manage to straighten the leader properly, and were rewarded with 5 fish for the day. Both of our hats blew off at least once! Our fish were taken on Deer hair sedges, or small nymphs. There was a good hatch of blue winged olives, among others, which the trout had to be very lucky to get a chance at, as they were being snatched up frantically by scores of swallows and sand martins, which all added to the day's interest. Another enjoyable day on the Usk!

Circumstance forced a late departure meaning I didn't get to the water until 3pm. Very strong wind throughout but few fish rising just by the bridge when I arrived provided 30 mins of sport. Missed several, caught one WBT of around 7 inches on a cillabaetis comparadun.
A flash of rain and all surface activity stopped, although there were still a good number of flies on the surface - a mixture of olives, large yellow mays and terrestrials. Nothing else seen or caught until 6.15pm when one riser was spotted just before the bridge at the end of the beat and tempted by a black and white spinner. Lovely trout at about 9 inches.
Both returned.
