Fished the fly through the day. Saw several fish during the morning but only managed to catch a small trout and a large shad. Water height and clarity was spot on.
Two canoeists appeared on the bankside next to me mid afternoon and proceeded to launch despite my protestations. They claimed to have permission from the Abernant owner and clearly had no interest in any rules in force.

Arrived on a beautiful dawn at 5.45am. Sane people still tucked up in bed. River higher than expected at 1.02m but colour (just) fishable. Dropped 3cms during 6hrs of enjoyable exercise. No sign of fish but Snake Roll and embryonic Snap-T casts coming along.

Found the river carrying a little bit of water and colour. Very little rising but managed to tempt a few out on deep fished Nymphs. Lovely spot, as the upper Wye always is. All fish release.

High amount of different flies rising. Not one trout seen even mooching along several miles of fishing. Very disappointing.

Water high and very coloured. Although it was over most of the walkway, the lower stretch was fully accessible. We saw no salmon, but two 1lb trout took the shrimp fly.
Nice location, have already booked a return trip.

Forced off the Usk by the water conditions, we headed to the reservoir. A very difficult days fishing because of the strong gusting NE wind blowing straight into our faces.
