Fishing:Salmon
I started fishing the stones around 6.00am and worked all the way down to the Upper lines with out a touch. The canoes started to arrive so I gave up for a few hours. In the afternoon started again in the stones and make my way down, when I reached the Gabions a lovely 23lb decide to take the fly, second cast after releasing the fish I was in again in the upper lines, a good 20 minutes fight before it came off (probably a large fish). Thanks to the Wye and Usk foundation for all the information provided.

A fantastic day, Olives and March Browns hatching, also a fall of black gnats when it warmed up around lunch time.
Saw some good fish moving, could not fool them all. Small CDC Emerger type flies and CDC and Elk worked on the rising fish I spotted.

Very difficult access along most of lower beat and wading definitely required a wading stick. Non the less enjoyable day 3 fish lost and one 10 inch WBT landed and returned safely.

Another amazing few hours at Ashford House today. I arrived at 10am and the river looked like hot chocolate so on went the tungsten Pheasant Tail. The second cast produced a fine 1lb BT and so it went on until 2pm when I packed up and went home. The largest landed was around 1.5lb (taken). I also witnessed an otter splashing around in the head of the same pool I was fishing (amazing). Fortunately I did better than him! Then the usual fly past from the Hercules C130 at about 20 feet, great place!

Was only a matter of time! Arrived at 10.30, river tinge of colour, looking great.
Started in the Rock pool, saw 2 fish move around lunch time, tried but they didn't oblige. Fished the Bridge pool, had lunch went back to The Rocks, BINGO, 15lbs of silver on home tied Allys/flamethrower double on slow sink tip. More fish seen after.
TIP; give up any DIY this weekend go fishing for Salmon!

A very large salmon leaped out of the water under the suspension bridge - looked to be in the 30-40lb class and slightly coloured.
Caught a beautiful brown trout on a black Flying C. Great accommodation at Old Mills - good food and kind hospitality,
thanks for recommending.

Fabulous conditions. Arrived Thursday afternoon and fished for a couple of hours on beats 3 and 5. Saw several fish but made no contact.Tried again on Friday with again fish showing throughout beat 5. John L, hooked up with a big fish tied on his own fly and lost it after a series of good runs. I think the fish we were seeing were travelling on and not interested but one did succumb to a toby on beat 6. A beautiful 17lb hen fish straight from the tide. Shame no other rods out to do justice to this estate. Will be back over the weekend before the canoes.
