Must confess feel rather embarrassed writing this report. Arrived to find the river at a good height and started with the fly at the top of the beat catching several trout.
Having got to the lower orchard we decided to spin the slower water, sadly we managed to lose two silver fish in the 15 to 20lb bracket one of which leapt 4 times and stripped off 60 ish yards before throwing the hook. We then fished the Llangoed Pool where we managed to lose a smaller fish. All lost on tobies with barbless hooks. We did however see an enormous salmon 30 to 40lbs, an otter
and a dead lamprey obout 20 inches long. A rising river stopped what can only be described as an eventful day.

40 mins fishing before the promised rain arrived (had started at 9.30ish). Three quick fish then deluge forced us to abandon and head to the pub for the rest of the day.

Cold wind and rained all day long! 2 brown trout approx. 10" taken on a goldhead black Zulu. Unfortunately the weather conditions made it very unpleasant. However, Wye and Usk Foundation booking office were most cooperative.

It poured down all day but I did manage to get 4hrs fishing before the river coloured.
The day started slowly but once I'd found the right nymph things got going nicely. A fulling mill french nymph got them going and I landed a handful of 8-12 inchers with 15,16 and 17inch fish to mention. Had about half an hour of big fish regularly hitting me before the river became unfishable. Was absolutely soaked through when I threw in the towel at 2:30.

Weather cold and wet. Access to the water was limited and difficult in most places, down steep banks straight into 4-5 ft of water. There is an open stretch near the bridge (about a mile from the beat entrance), with easy access.

WUF note: Access, several new steps and beat maintenance work is planned for this beat within the next 10-14 days.

Fished bottom of beat with nymphs, have done well here before but just a couple of takes and didn't connect with anything. No rises seen.

Nice little stream, perhaps a bit too small for two anglers. We caught four small trout using small nymphs on a cold day with incessant heavy rain. Then river rose and coloured up so we packed up for an early bath.

Heavy rain all day. Fish caught on bushy fly on top dropper. All fish returned.
Beautiful place to fish - would be even better in decent weather!

A beautiful beat. Spoke to the young owner, who is an avid ecologist and who is working hard to improve the diversity of wildlife and the health of the river. Much needed rain through the day brought activity from the fish and several small browns came to hand, nothing bigger than about 9 inches though. Hooked into what I first thought was asnag at the bottom end of the beat, but then the snag headed off downstream and came off. By the kiting in the current, a substantial grayling had eluded me. As the rain continued, a slight tinge helped me stay undetected, and as the evening drew in, plenty of rising fish were accessible but matching the hatch proved difficult with a variety of flies big and small coming off. Most fell to a size 14 cdc and elk pattern. The potential of the beat was obvious, so I booked for the next day.
Be warned that the path down the hill from parking is treacherous in the wet!

9.40am 8lb from the Corner. 10.30am 9lb fish from the Cafn Stream. 12.00 12lb fish from Boat pool. All on a Cascade.
This took me past 100 salmon in the catch book at the Nyth and Tyr Celyn. What a way to do it!
