2 rods leggered worm, caught 6 trout and 3 perch between us. (OK - he caught 5 and I caught 1, but then that's what fathers are for - i.e. to show sons how it's done). Great days fishing, paperwork checked by friendly, informative wardens who gave advice to novice trout anglers.

Very windy, made the water choppy. One wild carp, one chub. Got nothing on the north shore.

This part of my report got lost in the ether!
Last visit to Lyepole was on a scorching day yet we had an excellent days fishing. Today, overcast and cooler and with a strong downstream wind. River still very low.
Saw 1 rise all day, caught a single wbt of +8ins on a Copper John and lost another in the same pool and that was it.
Saw otters (or the same otter) 3 times. First time in the deep (not at the moment) pool on the bend at the bottom of the beat. Made both of us jump out of our skins. 20 mins later I suspect same otter appeared about 50 yards upstream of me in a very shallow section. Stayed there for a good 1/2 hour turning stones as he/she splashed way upstream. Finally needed to get past the furry poacher - who has same level of success as I had in that stretch - zero, so he scooted off again.
Later had a long string on bubbles move through another pool I was fishing in - so suspect my friend was back again.
Gave up at lunchtime as heavy showers started. Wye tributaries now getting desperate for some water.

Both fished the wooded stretch. We fished from early morning and in the evening, spending some of the afternoon at the pub while the bulk of the canoes were on the water. No fish taken unfortunately. Frustratingly lost one to a snag early on. Fish not biting at all really, not even any Chub about.

No fish caught of any species. Plenty of canoeists though. River was quite low and slow flowing. It became impossible to fish comfortably on Saturday afternoon due to the number of canoeists.
I do sometimes wonder if the fishing beats are ever inspected by The Wye & Usk Foundation as some of the information given is contrary to the actuality of the fishing on arrival or thereafter. I am not specifically talking about this beat either.

WUF note - Unfortunately we cannot continually visit the 180 miles of fishing on offer on a regular basis and rely on anglers feedback to highlight any issues or inaccuracies printed in the beat description and instructions.

Very tricky to wade. Very dificult stream at the bottom.
Some of the pools are deep indeed. Two trout caught and released, 6 inches with dry-fly. Good day and very nice place, difficult but nice.

River and weather good on the Saturday with boat traffic to carnival levels. Fished for chub on the float and flake - caught 6 and then when the canoes stopped coming down, caught three barbel at the end of the day to seven and a half pounds on pellet. Many thanks to D.B. from Winchcombe for his instruction. I hope to meet him on the bank one day.

Day 1 of 4 on WUF stretches. River was still very low. Fished a number of swims between 7am - 12pm, but only managed 1 eel. Returned to fish the evening with better results. 5 Barbel all around the 5lb mark.
Some well cut out pegs, but much of the stretch (including what looks like the best part) is inaccessible. If we return it will be with shears, rope and a large stake!
