This is a wonderful beat, full of fish and with a healthy fly population. Aided by the hottest day so far this year (21C) it was easy to target rising fish. I put 15 on the return but honestly I lost count and also lost as many as I caught. I used a size 14 CDC olive and would have gone smaller but I didn't have any (note to self). I saw some Mayflies but they were sporadic and I didn't see a fish take one. The middle section is difficult to fish and I am still to fish the top section which looks quite overgrown. There are 2 fallen trees in the bottom section which I don't remember from last year but manoeuvring around these was a small price to pay.

Hot bright day. No sign of Salmon but plenty of trout rising on the lower slower reaches of both the upper and lower beats. Good sport with five trout taken by two anglers on the lower beat - Little Stream Pool. Biggest fish 10oz. Flies caught on were Snipe & Purple, and Black & Peacock.
We will be returning.

No fish and very few trout showing in spite of prolific fly hatch throughout the day. Perfect weather conditions. As this was my first visit to the beat I was well looked after by Lynn Thomas, a beat regular of nearly 40 years. Thank you Lynn - I will return to put my newly found knowledge to good use.

The weather and river levels were perfect but there were only a few small hatches throughout the day so we searched for the fish with nymphs and finished with 7 trout to 1.5lb. The otter is still resident in the top pool but we were happy to share the fishing!

16 trout caught on dry flies and 8 on nymphs/spiders mostly from 7-11 inches.
Fished for about 5 and half hours from mid-day onwards with the weather mild and overcast. River low and clear.
I started off fishing with a dry fly and nymph rig catching 7 on a beadhead PT Mary and 2 on a Klinkhammer. With the fish showing an interest in the Klinkhammer I switched to a single dry fly catching 14 on cdc & elk dry flies. I caught several fish I had seen rising but most were caught in prospecting runs, riffles and pocket water. 1 other fish caught on a snipe and purple spider.

Spent a couple of very pleasant hours in the evening on my local brook. Caught 4 very nice trout to 8", all in good condition. Looks like the brook has been cleared since I last fished it, which must be over a year ago. A really nice stretch of water now despite there still being a bit of rubbish about and some bank slippage. Will have another go soon.

Water still high and fast, few trout showing but fished hard and took 8 all on dry fly. We have had a good week in great parts of the two rivers, many thanks.

Our second annual visit to this enchanting beat. It was a very warm sunny day and the fishing took a few hours to come alive – very little action on NZ setups all morning.
Mid-afternoon, after a good lunch at The Bell, the Mayfly hatch began and we caught three trout of 7-9 inches in fairly quick succession from one of the upper pools, on French Partridge and Wulff patterns.
We returned at about 7pm to fish the spinner fall and after a few bodged strikes to rises from wily fish in the slick glides, finally managed to connect with one last fish as the light faded.
Glorious!
