We arrived at 8:30am hours to find the river in fine form. Blizzard-like clouds of gnat hovered around virtually all day and were joined periodically by good hatches of Olive and the occasional Sedge. As such, the trout rose freely throughout the day but were not easy to tempt – one bad cast and they would dive for cover. We caught 3 Trout – all on klinkhamer. Nymphs produced nothing.
Points to note:
(1) do not attempt to access car park 1 in anything other than a 4x4.
(2) Bring chest waders and a wading staff.

A great day do be up at Bugeilyn. Slow fishing in the morning, sporadic rises now and again but picked up in the afternoon. Caught in excess of 20 feisty wee brownies, lost count before packing in early evening. Busy place today, 2 in the boat and a season ticket holder on the bank. Another angler did turn up late afternoon, half an hour out in their float tube and then left, I thought that was a bit odd.

Assisted another angler in the afternoon and evening sessions for trout at Top Run, Rock Pool and Wood Stream with no takes. Very little fly life on the water which was 0.78m and slightly coloured but good fishing conditions.
Having consulted the owner we fished through to the Wires below the bridge with no result.
Reverted to trout and had one three quarter pound trout on a dry size 14 Grey Wulff which was returned.
No late evening fun so left at 10pm.

Very warm day, a little sun. Problems with barbed wire (moving around) and lush trees and vegetation. Still, 2 small brownies caught off the top and returned, with another 3 missed.
Taken on a size 14 Grey Duster.

Two anglers caught ten brown trout, all in good condition with weights between 3/4lb and (a weighed) 3lb, all fighting fit! taken to various small dry flies (lots of medium olives showing). Good river height, bright overcast warm May day location is beautiful with good access.

River looked good but not too much hatching through the morning and consequently very few trout rising. Best fish was 15" so I'm not complaining. All on a size 12 Greenwell's.

Very warm day, water pushing through nicely with just a hint of colour.
Fish a bit slow to switch on but when they did you felt you had a chance in every pool. Mixed hatch with some Yellow May's and a darker version I couldn't Christen.
Most effective fly a small (size 14) French Partridge (I have fished a bigger FP hook size (10/12) here before but always felt it looked a bit disproportionate).
11 wbt caught and released. Beautifully conditioned, flecked in red. Biggest around 12", most plump 8"-10".
It is a scramble at times and I still haven't reached the top of the beat in 5 attempts. I don't think there is a better £10 wbt ticket in the UK.

Couldn't believe it today, water was 1 foot 9 and clear. Perfect apart from that bright sun again. Saw one salmon turn in the Rock Pool, had 1 trout from Ty Mawr and a 2 pound shad from the Rock Pool. Fished for 4 hours but had enough and called it a day. The river was alive with trout.

26 x trout 6-11 inches on a small Rusty Klinkhammer and, after a few mayfly duns appeared about 1 o'clock, a size 12 Monnow Gosling. Not a very dramatic mayfly hatch (the winter floods disturbed a lot of the silt in the channel) but it certainly put the little trout in the mood for a big fly. Other things seen and heard: fresh green beech leaves and carpets of bluebells, chimes of Parkend church clock through the woods, two fallow deer caught drinking at midday, a kingfisher carrying what looked like a trout parr, and a female mallard who decided I had designs on her brood and performed the broken wing deception in order to draw me away. This wood and the area of the stream took a lot of damage during the winter storms and many trees are down, but the trout population seems quite happy.
