Our first time on this beat so not a bad result. All fish caught in the afternoon after trying several swims lower down. There were several salmon jumping through the day. After a foggy start it became warm and sunny in the afternoon. Lovely beat but a bit featureless. We look forward to trying it in the summer.

Beat:Goodrich Court
Fishing:Salmon

River fast and coloured, about 2/3 of the stones from Maddox to Corner Tree out of the water (just), this was my first time on the beat so I am assuming these form the walkway mentioned in the notes.
Fished a Flying C all day but no luck and nothing seen.
Banks very slippery, take a wading staff even for fishing from the bank.

First visit to this beat, and the upper wye. Such a fantastic setting, really is a beautiful way to spend a day. Fished the top end of the beat in the morning trotting with the centre pin. Had a 2 Grayling, both around 1lb. These were my first ever. Such hard fighting fish for their size, I can't wait to target them next season. I also had 2 small trout under 1lb. By 11am the sun came out and the trotting died off with no more fish caught by 1pm. At this point I decided to get the feeder gear out and relax in the sunshine. I headed down to the bottom of the beat in search of chub, or maybe a bonus barbel. After a look through the lower beat I realised their wouldn't be much hope of barbel, it's deep and slow so chub would be the target. I had one which weighed in at 5.8, so happy with that. I would like to fish this best again, but would want to spend a full day at the top of the beat. It really is a stunning stretch of water. I look forward to exploring more upper Wye stretches in the new season.

After yesterday we decided to remain in the same spots as we had put in plenty of feed the previous day and knew there were a few fish in the area. Today though, we saw fewer fish downstream and I saw nothing in my swim. My mate stayed put, recasting his feeder every 15-20 mins but had no bites in 8 hours. I went upstream pre-baiting likely looking spots for chub and fishing these swims on my way back down. There were some chubby looking areas but again I could not find any fish despite trying meat, pellet, cheese & corn hook baits. Settled back into my original swim and 5 mins before packing up time my rod banged a couple of times and I struck into a fish but snapped immediately on 10lb line. Upon inspection the line was frayed & must have rubbed against something sharp as I struck. Not good! So 4 days fishing - 2 Barbel caught by my mate (2 bites), 3 Chub caught by me (5 bites). Poor by any standards and the worst time I have had on he Wye.
