First time fishing this stretch, we ended up fishing the bottom end of the beat by the bridge pillars. I did take a look at the top end but not so many swims up that end available. The river was running high due to the over night rains, however this did not put off the fishing. We managed between us, seven barbel and about thirteen chub. Was finding it hard to hold bottom due to the flow. Because of the rain all day we did find it hard getting up the track in our van when we finished fishing. We had a great day, many thanks.

7 Barbel, 13 Chub

5 Barbel to 7lb 14oz and 1 Chub about 3lbs. All to 8mm pellet and/or corn with PVA mesh bags of small pellet. Meat surprisingly unproductive given the amount of colour in the water. Given the conditions, I probably should have caught more but a nice day on a nice stretch anyway. Beware the near bank tackle graveyard in the upper swims. The middle or beyond is better. No problems with directions/access, even the canoeists behaved themselves. Thank you WUF.

Yesterday saw my first days fishing for 30 years at Doldowlod. As I stepped onto the suspension bridge I could hardly believe my eyes glimpsing 2 beauties rising on the surface below me. One about 20 and the other I politely guess around the 40 mark. I am not referring to lbs weight, but the ages of the 2 stark naked ladies taking their early morning dip in the Wye. Any way my general fishing below this boundary bridge saw few fish rising, only 3 grayling and 2 trout to 1/2 lb caught on a dry red tag. Back above the bridge, big grayling, and I mean loads of them were seen rising all over the shop. One might even have been a salmon. Such a shame the WUF don't let the entire estate along with the premier pools where we once caught grayling and salmon by the shed load. Perhaps you can advise me who does let the better maintained fishing on those more productive autumn pools like the upstream Argoed and Red Pool or the bottom end Sand and Fish pools.
