Fishing:Trout (River)

I was ready to fish and could hear the river but blowed if I could see it. The "Passport" said follow the white posts but beware they were once white and and now some of them are missing. However once down into the gorge the river is surprisingly fishable with plenty of backcasting space. Several really good pools to fish one of which produced a nice 12 inch brown trout on a black Klink. Five others caught from 6 to 10 inches on a combination of a brass beaded nymph and Klink.

Fantastic stretch of water with some great pegs that have been cut out. Long walk which means travel light as possible. Finished the afternoon with 4 barbel and a chub and lost 3 cut off on a snag.

15 x trout 6-13 inches on a small Rusty Klinkhammer. Several years since I was last on this one at the top of the Edw. A rather warm sticky afternoon on which I ran out of both time and space - this beat is very overgrown now and I never did get to the top end. On the other hand, the little river is in good heart with plenty of trout, lots of invertebrates and small fry. Must make note to fish it at Mayfly time next year and put it on the list for a trim this winter.

7 barbel - a low 7, two low 8's, and a 9.7 plus 3 others, plus that ruddy eel. Several with significant hook damage - I use de-barbed 14's.
Had to cast and rove around a bit, all from Leg Meadow swims, river at near 'normal' summer level and clear.
As the road noise diminishes and the setting sun gets out of your eyes behind the tall pines, the place takes on the Wye magic atmosphere. Pretty reasonble for an evening session with the just the one, home-made and Indian-looking, canoe.

A very pleasant day on this very pretty stretch of the Usk, wading was not the easiest though.
3x brown trout caught, 1 taken approx 1.5 lb(plus a number of juvenile fish when nymphing),
2 caught on a bug imitation after a sharp downpour close to the bank, 1 caught on a blue winged olive during a hatch, wasn't sure what the hatch was and the BWO WAS THE NEAREST I COULD MATCH!
A wonderful experience all made possible by the foundations expert advice and helpful staff, thank you.

A bright, warm day. The promised rain failed to arrive, instead occasional showers. Nevertheless, we had a most enjoyable, if hard, day on this wonderful beat. Fishing for almost 8 hours one of us took 9 wild brown trout, including 2 beautiful fish at 12+ inches, the other took 5. The most productive tactic was New Zealand dropper style, with a size 20 nymph under a size 14 klinkhammer.
