It was tougher going this visit. I seemed to find every snag in the river plus the rain thunder & lightning combined to make it more uncomfortable. Despite this I managed to land 6 Barbel between 5lb and 7lb 3ozs using pellets.

Decided not to fish the morning session following our experience with the masses of kayaks the previous day, so arrived at about 4pm to find the river carrying a bit more colour from the overnight rain. A few kayaks and boats still on the river, but without exception they were all quiet and considerate to us as anglers.
We returned to the "Rocks" swim in the wooded section, this time being aware of the safer, rock - free areas in front of us. Using swim-feeder approach and 16mm pellet bait we caught 3 nice Barbel weighing 7lb.4oz, 7lb.15oz, and 9lb 11oz. Only lost one barbel and very little tackle to the rocks this time having found the clear runs on the far bank.

Started on the float but struggled a bit with the main flow of water over towards the far bank. Only one small chub in three hours. Switched to feeder tactics for the last two hours and picked up seven barbel to 8 1/2 lbs to round off a superb days fishing. It's a fair trek from the car park, so best to travel light but the beat map and parking instructions were very clear.

Even with the conditions and water perfect we found it hard to locate the fish. 6/7 brown trout to 12" to hand and approx the same on long distance catch and release. Possibly the water levels were a bit to low. All fish caught on heavy beaded nymphs or spiders.

Fished Ty Newydd from 10am until 5pm. 3 brown trout to three quarters of a pound and 4 grayling to a pound and and a quater. All returned. Conditions looked quite good, but there was very little fly-life and therefore hardly any sign of surface activity. I flung all my favourite flies into my favourite spots with little success. Most of the fish fell for a size 16 black spider in the streamier runs. I also saw salmon showing in two of the pools.
