A cloudy, thundery afternoon and evening with occasional showers. Water level was 1 foot 4 inches, but rather black and dirty so I opted to spin. 2 x cock salmon, both at 32 inches. One was a coloured fish which had presumably been in for a while; the second, just before dark, was fresher but showing a very nasty bite wound either side of the adipose fin, which I put down to a seal attack.
The by-catch was interesting. One greedy chub on a Flying C was no surprise. But from the top of the beat, a very large cock brown trout of 24 inches. Sad to relate, although it looked in good condition and with plenty of girth, it came in like a log with no fight at all. I made sure it was another chub until I actually saw it. Even sadder to relate, it woke up as I was unhooking it while standing in the river and with a couple of head-shakes neatly and very painfully transferred the spinner from its kype into my hand. He was off and I was on. I know, I should have used the forceps. The air was blue for a while and by mutual agreement we skipped the photography. By its colouring, this quite definitely was a brown trout and not one of the Wye's rare sea trout. I wish I could catch one like this on the fly, but I never have, and as far as I could see he looked like a confirmed carnivore. He certainly left his mark on me.

Fished from 6 to 9pm on an evening ticket. Picked up a good Chub on an Ally's from the Wharf Pool, plus had a pull near the island. Slight colour and good height. Great fly water.

18.00 to 21.30 middle swim of Leggs Meadow. Took 13yr old Grandaughter M to try catch her first Barbel, with shouts of "its pulling me in" she did at a weighed 8lb 4oz then caught 2 more of similar size. 20mm halibut pellet with swim feeder in near third of river. I caught 1 also but it was smaller!
Both Courtfield and Wye Bank fishing well now but early morning and evening/dusk providing most fish to hand.
Tues morning river rising and coloured, should fish well.

Well there is never two days the same!!!! Conditions were perfect, water clear and at good height, but where were the fish? Very little fly life on the water and what was, was minute. Fished hard all morning concentrating on spiders and nymphs but to no avail. Decided to fish the dry fly "small adams" and took three 10" browns fishing the rifts blind also a few small salmon parr. On the whole a disappointing day fishing wise " probably just me fishing poorly", but fantasic surrounding on a beautiful beat. Will be back!!!

Water dropping slightly and still carrying quite a lot of colour after heavy overnight rain (and one or two downpours during the couple of hours I fished!) but managed to dredge up 4 trout to 9 inches on heavy dark nymphs (all returned).

Lost count of the number of fish caught in excess of a dozen and at least as many dropped off, mostly small. All fish returned. Foshing was much better in the morning, the river appeared to be running down with just a nice amount of colour. The lunchtime rain with consequent increase in colour made fishing more difficult.

Nice location, though not easy to find. Drive through the
willow tree! Spent most of the day at the bridge swim. Took 6 barbel & 2 chub. Lovely quiet part of the river - we will be back!

Stunning stretch and running clear. All muddy water coming into usk from junction pool on this beat. Just one tiddler and not much sign of fish but we were there in the middle of the day so no real surprise.
