A 5lb barbel within a minute of casting meant I could relax on a mild mid winter day. THe river was still running strongly so the rest of the day was relatively quiet. My companion and I had three barbel and two chub from the top of the stretch which seemed like a good result for the time of year.

A frustrating day! A serious case of 'rubber hooks' saw me lose no less than six good grayling on upstream nymph tactics. Took two decent grayling, five 'graylets' and one small WBT. Conditions & level were ideal but just didn't really 'get amongst them' today. Drowned my mobile phone to cap it off too! At least the location & wildlife made up for it. Many thanks WUF.

Washed off last week so it was great to be back on the Irfon on a perfect day. Cloudy for most of the day with little wind and a bit of sunshine first thing.
First time here for RM who struggled a bit to score 3 grayling up to about 1.5lb. TH had a good day with 28 grayling up to about 1.5 lb, 9 oos trout and 3 salmon parr.
Most of the grayling from the bend upstream from the chapel in fast water about 18" deep. Had to move away from the water behind the chapel as all we got there was trout and parr. Quite a difficult venue for a first timer lessons have been learned. All fish caught using long trotted red maggot.

27 x grayling 8-17 inches, 11 x out of season trout 7-10 inches, long trotting with a centre pin. How good it is to get out on the river again after a month of floods and indoor frustration! The Irfon had come down to a very nice height; plenty of water still pushing through but very little colour. A warm, grey day with just a little drizzle, but nothing to affect the river. More pesky trout about than usual at this time of the year (and no visible signs of spawning about them), but the grayling were mostly good ones with two fish at 17 inches and quite a few in the 15-16 inch range. The Wye is still high.

8 chub, 2 barbel, 1 pike. Meat and cheese paste.

Great days fishing, plenty of grayling to 2lb, lots of small trout plus one chub of 4.2lb, all taken on the pin.

A great day on Sunday, although it was one of the first dry days we'd experienced, meaning the ground was still very wet and the water high and coloured. Despite the conditions and, as we were there, we decided to crack on and give it a go.

Fishing every method in the armoury, and after searching nearly the whole beat, we were unable to connect with anything fishy, a product of the high waters, but it was good to introduce a friend to this water and great to be out after so much time away thanks to the rain.

Mixed day of weather on a fairly swollen, muddy river. Chest waders mandatory, particularly for bottom section. Variety of nymphs used with no success. Pretty spot and generally good access.

Blanked due to rapidly rising river - 5 foot above normal levels. Did hook a Jack but lost at net. Helpful owner tried to put us on fish, will be back again.

Thanks to all at WUF for helping me take a day's fishing at Cefnllysgwynne. The river was rising steadily during the day and was too high & coloured to fish by the end. I managed to winkle out a solitary grayling on maggot early on so all was not lost.
