John and I both did well on trout, John had 8 fish, the best a beauty of about 2lb 4 taken above bridge, and 4 at the top run, all taken fishing 14 spider patterns. All returned.
I landed 5, and lost a fish of around 2lb (broke line 2.6lb)I took one fish of just over 1lb and returned the rest. Again fished subsurface with tin head 16 and spider on dropper.
A sparse rise to grannom at about 2pm. Gusty wind but fine. No salmon seen. Water about .45m and clear.

What a breathtaking water, we caught one small brown trout on a black gold head fly on a sinking line drawn slowly along the bottom fishing (badly) into the wind. The beautiful flat calm and blue skies at 7.30 were replaced by snow and strong north easterly wind later in the day but you couldnt help but be totally captivated by the place. We tried fishing at all levels, but on the day, the fish were largely better than us. I would echo the point about getting to the lake, you wouldnt want to drive down the last part of the access road in anything but a 4x4 but more important you really need to be careful with the underfoot conditions around the lake - especially on the east bank, there are hidden deep holes that caught me out twice (much to the amusement of my brother) and filled my boots with water, these could easily twist or break an ankle, remember there's no phone signal out there so be careful if you are on your own. The lake however is just breathtaking, we saw one other angler on the day who caught two using similar low and slow tactics to us. Really cant wait to go again. Many thanks Wye and Usk, the booking process is simple and your waters are second to none. Cheers.

Lovely day with the river in decent shape to flyfish. Vanstone pool too deep to wade though. No touches but canoe traffic was fairly light

Struggled today. River in reasonable shape, but fish not cooperative. Managed one 12" trout on a baetis nymph and missed a take on small klink during a brief hatch of ldo.

Arrived early to find clouds of mist rising off the water following the overnight frost. The water was clearing nicely after the recent flush of rain and prospects appeared reasonable. Fished hard covering most of the beat without success and no fish were showing. By the time the canoeists arrived in numbers it felt like I was flogging the water and so decided to call it a day. Interestingly I did see a large shoal of small silvery fish below the boat pool which I belive were smolts although I'm not 100% certain.
