First time on the beat. With that little bit of extra water on it was a very demanding day. It was however rewarded with a day out in a very beautiful almost Jurassic part of the country. Unable to stay late so missed out on the best. Fished dry sedges all day with 3 trout to 10 inchs.

Another superb beat, the setting is lovely and being higher up the Wye you miss a lot of the canoes!! Three rods were booked but only one fished. Barbel and chub came regulary all day, although as pointed out before, this is a very snaggy section. River was 3ft up and rising. Access at this beat is tricky. The farmer has locked the gates and directed me to follow the road. This was impossible as it was so muddy. I scaled the gates and follwed the path given in the directions. The route I went was down the hill and then over the second gate, follow the hedges to another gate, then follow the river down to the beat. I would say this was about a 10-15 minute walk and I would not reccommend this beat for less able anglers. The swims are all well defined with posts at the top of the bank showing where they are. Even in high conditions there were still plenty of swims.

Arrived to find the water very coloured and rising but worth a shot. Tried a Spindle Fly and Mepps for an hour and half and managed 2 trout. As the water conditions worsened (visibility into the water perhaps 6" at best) my guest rod Barry arrived. He decided to plug away with a Mepps, I headed off to collect number one son from his workplace. Later that afternoon I received a call from Barry with news of a 13 lber and later a phone pic as evidence. Just shows, if you dont have your line in the water ......!!

A wet start after a night of persistent torrential rain. The river seemed to get progressively faster and more coloured throughout the day. The start of the beat is quite open so we walked up river to the field the other side of the metal bridge where more trees overhang. After no luck we moved to the 2 swims either side of the metal bridge over the inlet. 1 rod had 3 barbel - 6lbs 3ozs, 6lbs 6ozs and 7lbs 13oz from the swim virtually under the bridge at the mouth of the inlet. All fish were caught with Ellipse pellet haired and a feeder mix, avoiding main current. We didnt see a soul all day. This really is a beautiful spot.

Caught 2 lovely trout on a black pennel. Although I see that it is common to catch more than 2, I had a lovely day regardless. A wonderful spot and a great walk in.
