Beat:The Rectory Fishery

Fishing:Salmon

Water still very high & coloured, although we did give it a fish where the wading wasn't too dangerous; One small trout took a very large, heavy Alley Shrimp tube on a sink line. No salmon seen or caught.

Beat:Cadfor Farm, Llanfoist, Usk

Fishing:Salmon

No. of Anglers:1

15lbs cock fish on an orange rapala late in the evening after a fruitless afternoon with the fly, less a lovely brown trout just under 2lbs on a size 10 cascade. Water still quite high and a little too mucky, though clearing - tomorrow should be perfect! Fish was coloured and returned.

A bit more time this visit, so explored and fished the much more extensive lower section - and it is stunningly beautiful with all the classic small falls so often pictured. I even found a few rising fish which were too shy or I was too clumsy to catch. Lovely day even if blank.
Note: The WUF fishing pressure on this beat is very light but the bankside angling path and all access points to the pools are well worn and I have met very pleasant other anglers who "have a season rod" on this stretch and know several others who also have "season rods". What is the basis of the WUF access to this beat because it certainly isn't lightly fished?

WUF note - The owner reserves the right to allow a select few local rods to fish this beat at his discetion but on the whole it is one of our more lightly fished beats.

Area:Usk

Beat:Fenni Fach

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

Fished at Fenni Fach on 27th having been washed off a couple of days earlier. One trout @ 1lb on nymph. Fishing upstream difficult because of current and slippery rocks...wading stick definitely needed as my swimming session testified !!
