RE’s quest for barbel continued……
A beautiful day dawned, blue cloudless sky, light breeze.
Arrived at 8.15am, walked the beat till 9.00am. Beautiful stretch of river but disappointed with the lack of access points along the bank, three in total. Decided to fish the Croy (CH) at the top of the beat and 200m downstream (RE).
Superb start to the day - CH – 3lb Chubb, RE – 4lb 8oz Barbel (Breaking his duck) followed closely by CH’s ‘Biggest Catch of the day’ – 5lb 12oz Barbel all caught on pellet within the first hour.
Disappointingly no further catches to report, but neither of us could complain, just felt privileged to be in this wonderful part of the country enjoying the sunshine and spectacular scenery and not forgetting the company of some magical wildlife, including swans, buzzards, Canada geese, cormorants, mallards, kingfishers, long tail tits and dragonflies to name but a few.
Leaving at 19.00 with a full moon lighting the way, a perfect ending to the day.
As Andy Williams concluded, ’Moon River and Me’.

We arrived at the beat to a very fast and flooded river (over 3' up according to Don). Struggled to find any fishable swims but after some sound advice from Don, we managed 3 chub to 4lb 8oz and 1 barbel to 4lb 8oz. A hard day but good sport and lovely surroundings yet again. All fish were taken on groundbait feeder and boilie. Looking forward to our next visit! Thanks again to Don and the WUF.

Blustery downstream wind and a lack of available time meant that I didn't get to enjoy this lovely stretch of river. But will make sure I do next year!

Started day off at top of the beat with little success. As it was bright and sunny I was not very confident. I also found it very snaggy. All I had to show for my efforts was one chub. I decided to settle into a swim near the dead tree and wait for the sun to go behind the tree line.
No sooner had this happened the whole situation changed and I ended up with eight barbel to over 10lb.

We booked the whole weekend and following the heavy floods we were praying all week the river would drop in time for our annual Whiskers in the Wye trip. Tom and I were very lucky to find the river in perfect condition, good colour and dropping.
A slow start was had that first morning and a couple of chub were our reward for our long journey and early start. We stuck it out all morning in the first swim with no more results. A move was in call for and by mid afternoon the fish started feeding and didn't stop feeding. By the end of the weekend we had 38 fish between the 2 of us, mainly barbel and a good number of chub. We also tried for some pike but none were encountered. The barbel ranged from 5lb to 10.5lb with 3 doubles banked in total, we even managed to double hook up twice! All in all our best days fishing ever, a wonderful beat, wonderful wildlife set in wonderful countryside. Thanks WUF for enabling this opportunity. Looking forward next year!

Great location, water clear and falling following heavy rain earlier in the week, weather sunny but cool, steady gentle rises mid morning to mid afternoon.
Landed four brown trout from 1/2 lb to a beautiful 1lb+ fish, all in good condition small emergers / dry flies.
Two fish taken.
