River high but only lightly coloured, a few flies hatching till the rain came and the temperature plummeted... Landed 4 at 7" to 10" and missed some. Caught on para adams earlier and GRHE nymph later. All trout in fine fettle, they must like the higher water!

After a six day blank in Norway and several other blanks it was nice to finally get off the mark with a coloured hen fish of about 8lds from just above the big Rock in the Rock Pool. Had another more lively fish on for quite a while and two other pulls all around the same spot.
1st time through the Gravel Catch landed a bright silver Cock fish of approx 12lb, no lice but very fresh, taken from above the power lines.
Throughout my day I must have seen over 30 fish including a tail walking Grilse which would show after I had covered it. Both fish taken on a Red Cascade and safely returned.
A shame to see so few fisherman on the river!

Water 0.81m and clearing. Hooked a 12lb fish below the rock at the back of the trunk on single hook barbless red/gold fc. Fish came off at the net, the intention was to return so no bad thing. No salmon showing and no rising trout despite a few flies around.

Caught the stream at a good height following recent deluges (the grosmont gauge showing approx 18 inches )with a tinge of colour. Thought the fish could be up for it but they seemed to be sulking a bit! Maybe their getting cheesed off with all this high water like us!
Weren't really coming to an attractor dry but swapped to a nymph under dry and that brought more response. Had 6 browns to 11" and 1 grayling which was a bonus.
PS - Keep an eye on a bull with heifers in first fields at moment, a big bugger that seemed ok(?) but was giving me the evil eye!

A difficult day for the two of us. One barbel each and six small chub. River level seemed fine about 4ft up. Water felt unusually cold for mid July. Will try again when things warm up! Thanks

Arrived to find the river was only up about 1 metre. I settled in a swim in the meadow. I had to move 3 times to find the feeding barbel. I even had to tinker with the length of the rigs and pellet size. It was supposed to be dry, however we had heavy rain showers during the afternoon. This is sure to start the cycle of high water again. I think the barbel fed well when the river was up on the previous weekend and gourged themselves. The swims are getting quite muddy now and care needs to be taken. It will be great when the wooded area is fishable.
The end result was 4 beautiful 8lb barbel like pea's in a pod. I lost 3 more to hook pulls (very rare for this to happen. I had 3 chub between 2-3lb. The barbel were caught after lunch.

Caught 1 chub 4lbs 2ozs and 1 eel 3lbs. River about 2/3ft up but not coloured. The bank on beat3 is high and difficult/dangerous coupled with grass and weed on the bank 3/4ft high so you could not see any access points. I think for £20 + £3 booking fee the bank should be at leased strimmed to create access and reduse risk. Poor value.
