First time on the Wye, river was running off nicely at just over a foot above normal levels. Fished a morning session only (on cricket and beer festival tour) from 7am to midday. Stunning scenery and cracking sport, baited up my swim (1 rod swimfeeder with hemp, halibut pellet groundbait, with hair rig pellet) 2nd rod ledgered hair rig pellet) caught a chub 1st cast, 2 barbel (7.5lb, 6.5lb): FIRST EVER BARBEL!!!!(Perfect condition,no sign of previous contact with homo sapiens). Followed up with lots more chub (best 4lb, 3lb) and got dragged all over the place by a large barbel that eventually snagged and snapped me!! Won the game of cricket as well!!! Happy days, can't wait to come back to the Wye!!

First visit to this beat. Caught 5 barbel to 7lb plus and 6 chub to 4lb plus. Stuck in one swim for the barbel, but went walkabout for an hour with the lighter rod and caught 3 chub and missed 3 from different swims. Good fun.
Nice varied beat, which seemed to me to have more likely swims than some of the other WUF beats. Another good day on the Wye.

Fishing:Trout (River)

Arrived early morning to damp and misty conditions. No fish rising and no fly life to be seen. Managed to land 2 small brown trout, approx. 6 inches, on a New Zealand style rig, one took the Klinkhammer, the other a
GRHE. Then the wind and rain came calling and the river soon swelled considerably. I ultimately succumbed to the conditions and left in time to have a nice roast lunch at the Skirrid Inn.

Sorry for a very belated report. Four small trout caught in the evening on a an olive klinkhammer. The highlight was the otter who shared the fishing with me for a short period.

If anyone lost a flybox please let me know via the WUF as I found one on the bank.

Fishery is heavily overgrown with Himalayan Balsam but managed to fight our way through. Caught 6 Chub around 3lb each and one Barbel of about 6lb between 2 rods. A very enjoyable day although I suspect the Barbel are not as prolific on this stretch. Excellent Chub fishing though !

Had a good day in beautiful surroundings. IM one trout around 2 lbs, TH four trout between 1 and 2 lbs. One area of concern was the presence of three other rods, all spinning.

Even though it was very windy, it was clear and sometimes cloudy. It was in a sense an ideal fishing day.
I caught 3 wild brown trouts (around 7") with Elk Hare Caddis, Adams and Klinkhammer and they all were safely returned. Each of my friends caught a few brown trouts, too.
It was a fantastic day for all of us. We booked 4 rods (maximum 4 rods) on the day, but there was a guy who was fishing at our beat. We told him that he was not allowed to fish without booking and he just went away without saying anything. We were very disappointed to know that there was such a guy.

**WUF note** We are making enquiries into the extra angler.

Ian Boney met us at 6am as planned and he was very helpful and showed us to Beat 3, which was our beat for the day. We could only fish the other beats if no Game fisherman arrived, which was a little suprising as the passport doesn't make that clear. We had a very enjoyable day even though the Barbel didn't put in an appearance. It's a lovely stretch of the river and 5 Chub were caught on pellet/boilies. The sevice from the foundation was first class, we will be back for the Barbel!
