4 Anglers had 24 Barbel a few chub and an eel on a variety of baits between us.
Still a little dissappointed that so much of the river here is unfishable due to the dense foliage.

Fished the lower end and had 5 chub to 5lb, 3 on freelined pellet. The river was carrying a lot of weed so conditions slightly tricky. The fish were in excellent condition and fought extremely well. Very impressed.

1 x trout 14 inches, Williams Favourite. Evening started well, with a good breeze kicking up some sediment along the shore and a decent fish taken close in at about 8 PM. But then the wind dropped to a flat calm, the fish moved off-shore out of casting range and a horrendous plague of midges appeared to attack every inch of exposed skin. Seth at the WUF was telling me the same thing happened to him at Llyn Bugeilyn recently. I suppose it's not surprising, given the weather we have had and all the acres of mud and rotting weed exposed by receding water levels. My bottle of insect repellent seemed totally inneffective, so retreated scratching furiously to the car before dark.

The river was in good condition in lovely surroundings. Even though this is a short beat, there are really only 3 or 4 fishable swims with the rapids covering 50% of the fishery. I caught a few chub, and the bird watching was superb. A lovely day despite the lack of fish.

Fished during the evening and caught a couple of small trout. However, whilst upstream nymphing with a size 14 pheasnt tail hooked a much bigger fish of just under 3lbs.

After discussion with WUF staff I think it was a very small grilse. Sea trout or salmon, it was a fairly fresh fish and a very welcome surprise. The fish was safely returned.

Lots of drifting weed due to welcome rise in river level made things tricky, but I had a very enjoyable afternoon and evening catching a chub (4-ish) and 8 barbel to 7lb.
My companion caught a couple of chub and lost 2 barbel.
As it was our first visit I don't know if I was just lucky in choosing the hot swim, or whether there are barbel throughout that stretch. Very convenient being able to drive along the bank.
The other member of our party fished at White House and caught 4 chub to over 5lb.

Excellent day for fishing. The river rose a foot while we were there. We had bit of a problem in the faster water with the weed that was dislodged by the rising water. Rods bent round within minutes of casting out. We found some slower water and using pellets we caught between us 9 chub and 12 barbel to 8lb 8oz. Very enjoyable day and worth another visit. Thanks Wye and Usk Foundation.
We stayed overnight at the Falcon House at How Capel. Highly recommended.

Six chub to 4lb (4 float fishing bread and meat, 2 ledger small pellet) one barbel lost due to cut weed. Weather bad, down stream wind, some showers and a non stop flow of cut weed making fishing best part impossible. However had a enjoyable day and will be back later in year. Should anglers be on river when weed cutting, debatable but how do you know?

Very shallow, short stretch - bank access not great and watch out for the wasps nest the other side of the bridge. Polaroids and waders essential. Not much action in very bright and increasingly blustery conditions. Enjoyed feeding huge shoal of chub who hang out under the tree by the bridge.
