Complete blank. River very brown. Seemed quite high, but it was my first time on this river so not sure what are "optimum" conditions.

Back again, this time the weather was abit more favourable! We fished from 7am to 4pm in the meadows stretch before the woods for 8 Barbel to 9lb 14oz. Bait was fishmeal boilies with 4/5oz leads to hold bottom. We had to cast at least once every 10 minutes at least because of the weed but the fish didnt mind!! WILL BE BACK ASAP!!!

I had a good days fishing and managed to catch some small grayling on dry fly. I also lost a grayling of well over a pound at the net. It took a weighted nymph. Also caught and returned 1 out of season brown trout. Would it be possible to install some styles/crossing places at both ends of the field to aid getting over the barbed wire?

The river very high (0.8 at EA Hay guage) and steaming through but fishable in the slacks and pools. Spent the morning piking and had a nice low double then switched to chub in the afternoon and to my surprise caught a rare upper Wye barbel a nudge under 9 pounds. Four nice chub followed to end a lovely day in the autumn sunshine made even better by the complete absence of any boats....Bliss!

With Heavy rain the night before we feared the worse for our second day at How Caple Court fishery. Thankfully we found the river to be in better condition than our previous day at Lower Ballingham. How Caple Court is a wonderful location and beautiful stretch of the river Wye.
We did our usual by walking the venue first and the nice thing we found about this stretch was there were swims which had steps down leading down to the swims unlike Lower Ballingham were we found nice spots to fish but were to dangerous to attempt to get near the water.
Phil found a swim close to the tree line where we had walked in from. I fished at the lower end where I had found some slow glides for me to trot a float through. I was in heaven feeding caster and maggots I finished the day with four quality chub including a PB of 6lb 12oz, along with a 5.4 4.10 and 3lb. I also caught better quality dace and small chublets and last fish of the day was a small roach.
Phil also had a great days fishing he managed one barbel from the first swim of 4lb and later in the day moved to a swim above the tree line and caught a further 3 barbel of 7,5 and 2, all on pellet.
I just didn't want to pack up it was one of the most memorable days fishing I have ever had, the venue is stunning and I really cant wait to go back.
I would like to thank Adam Fisher and the WUF for all their help and advise in suggesting these venues and our accommodation at the Royal lodge.

Another fabulous day at Whitney Court. River well up but peaking in mid-afternoon. More than 20 chub to about 5.5lb and two really good barbel, all on paste bait, touch legering. The biggest barbel had a growth on it's head that looked like a pellet - should we be concerned?

This was the first time me and my partner had fished the Wye and we weren't to be disappointed. After lots of overnight rain the river had risen but was running off nicely by the morning. Within the first 45 minutes we caught a barbel of 6lbs and this was followed throughout the morning by a further 6 barbel from 6lb-8lbs. All were caught on groundbait feeder & boillie. However from 2pm it went very quiet and with only 1 lost fish between the 2 rods. All in all a brilliant day set in amazing surroundings with an array of wildlife. We were looking forward to returning the following day. Many thanks to WUF!

Difficult day, rising and coloured with lots of debris coming down. 3 chub to about 4lb and two barbel 5lb and a good 8lb, lovely clean fish. Feeder and pellet, nothing on meat at all. Chublets plucking at boillies. Back again in a couple of weeks.

50 plus dace and small chub to 1.5 pounds, plus a few grayling which were nice to see and a couple of small out of season trout. A delightful sunny morning, roaming around and trotting maggots. As my old mother used to grumble: "he spent most of his time as a boy watching a float instead of doing his home work." And it seems nothing much changed! After lunch, however, the water began to rise and colour, the fish switched off and heavy rain arrived. Clumps of silkweed and duckweed, leaves and logs all drifting downstream; at last the Lugg has something like a flood!
