Fished from 1pm through to the evening. Fished dries (soft hackle and sedge) and spiders. Very few fish rising and a cool evening. 4 fish on dries and 5 on spiders ranging from 1/2 to 1.5 lbs mostly by prospecting. Lovely days sport and river looking a good height and flow.

No fish for the guy from Germany ;) Had to arrange with this beat in the first minutes. Thought the morning would be best and started at 6 am. Unfortunately no fish were rising.
The upper and downer part of the beat were jungle and it was nearly impossible to get trough. So I concentrated on the middle part. Steep banks and muddy shoreline, so wading was tricky - you had to find the right spot.
Wind was freshing up so no dry fly fishing from 8am on.
Tried my best with the nymph, but didn't manage to catch a fish.
I've seen and spooked some fish and spotted a very nice huge brown, but didn't get her on the line.
Scenery was perfect and I think the evening would have been better.
Stopped fishing at 11 am and travelled further.
Next time next try.

Rivers have been so low – but a bit of water on the gauge so we thought it worth a chuck. Not sure where the water was coming from …. None of the gauges up the catchment , including the Elan, looked as if they had seen water. But there it was – cold too, so do suspect dam release.
Wherever it came from the fish didn’t like it! Little by way of insect life either, although Mr kingfisher was showing us how to do it. We finished with one salmon parr …. Never mind, the bad days put the good ones in context.

Walked the entire beat and fished the swim with most flow but with very little result - bright conditions did not help

Well , back to my old favourite when the rivers are low , but boy when I turned up she was low low ….. having fished Hergest beat on Monday and had a successful few hours I did debate between Claerwen reservoir and the little Edw again …. She won , although perhaps in hindsight the big water may have been a better option …..

Got there at half eleven , plenty of insects on the go , and sedge and olives too , so they should be eyes up for a tasty bit of scran , but fishing was decidedly tricky today , I had the feeling perhaps a brunch had already been consumed , and I was late for the table !!!!!

Anyway , a tiny elk hair caddies did cause a stir in some of the pools , ending up with three to the net , and two good missed takes , all feisty little chaps , as always , only about seven or eight inches today , no chunky fish in the tally , and strangely enough was lovely seeing a tawny owl in the lower branches of an alder , I do see them regular in our copse , but he was close to the water , maybe he thought he was a kingfisher !!!!!!!

I think even the Hundred House beat is very hard going now , with vegetation , trees across the stream etc etc , I don’t mind summer growth at all , but that , combined with the low water makes it super tough ….. three hard earned fish this morning …. Oh and to top it off I didn’t get one horse fly bite …. Now that is a delight , especially in this valley !!!!

As always a lovely download of pure escapism , will give one of the big reservoirs up Elan a bash end of the week ….. lovely job , onwards and upwards !!!!!

No fish today as it was very very windy, and water very choppy, but a nice walk ????
