Had an early start fed several swims and fished a running rig set up kept on the move had my personnel best Wye Barbel and a stonkin chub of 6lb all caught using 10mm Hallibut pellets hair rigged on a size 12 Guru mgw. The climb upthe hill is a killer but well worth it all in all a great day and I had the beat to myself.

The overnight rain - which denied England a well deserved victory in the Old Trafford Test - had put a hit of colour in the river. Not that it appeared to help the fishing; I was half way up to the weir, and wondering what I was doing wrong, before I caught my first Grayling. Curiously, having caught the first fish, I had another 7 from the same run (6 on the way up river, 2 on the way back down). 2 Trout and another Grayling from just below the weir, but slim pickings downstream in the afternoon (this beat requires a rethink; if the cottage is occupied, as it invariably is, there is very little to go at downstream, especially at summer levels)

My other was a Minnow; a 3 inch leviathan, that took a Size 14 Endrick Spider in mid water, and was only landed after an epic battle

3 Trout, 10 Grayling, 1 Other

Fishing:Trout (River)

No fish seen, two rises in evidence however.
Beat was coppiced in 2007 but is still overgrown, I couldn't wade through the deeper pools and the bank was too eroded in places where it wasn't overgrown.
Only managed to fish around 70 yards of the lower beat due to the above. Barbed wire fencing prevents re-entry to river from the field. A disappointing day.

Great beat, good access. Due to rain on Saturday, banks deadly but at least some help being offered with revetting and ropes to most pegs.Other beats take note.
Fished two pegs at end of beat ,a chub a throw to meat on float and ledger virtually all day. Barbel on bottom in the faster water opposite the castle. Good day really appreciate Fishing Passport for gaining access us to fish stunning ,wild countryside ...in the shadow of a castle.....

Only one 3 1/2Ib chub caught and one lost. Too many canoes passing by (many of them rude and didn't care about or even look for anglers - ploughing straight through our near bank several times) and very hot/bright. Feeder and ledger methods used with various pellets and meat baits but hardly any bites considering the reasonable flow and slight colour to the water. Of note, the track down to the car parking area is quite deeply rutted in places and some anglers from Yorkshire (booked on the adjacent Home stretch) got their van stuck and had to abort their fishing trip after kindly being pulled out by a local in a 4WD vehicle. The recent rain had affected the track and it's best left to proper 4 WD's during wet periods. Due to the very heavy canoe traffic, we won't be fishing such stretches on a weekend ever again.
