A Friday night (when working full-time) isn't ideal for exploring new water, but when Saturday looks like having enough rain to unsettle the river it seemed like the best option. I'm glad I went, as I now know that I like this water. In terms of the fishing, it was fairly slow - I didn't hear any sewin move as dusk turned to night, and while that can be entirely meaningless as an indicator of action to come I do find it reassuring. In the bottom pool I had a few trouty plucks and one solid pull that resulted in nothing. Further upriver I had a large fish follow to within a rod length and then turn away aggressively, I'm not sure I will ever not be momentarily startled by a big unseen fish erupting in spray at close range. I also frightened some ducks, received the curiousity of a fox and was sworn at by an otter.
I appreciate it's a bit different for association beats, but the usual pool guide found on most WUF directions wouldn't go amiss for those of us on the Friday night crew. As it was, I did have enough time to find a few likely looking spots and time in between to ponder philosophical questions; such as whether everyone who uses the word 'woke' as a criticism has a shared definition of what it means beyond 'stuff I disagree with', and whether conservation charities would fall under it. I suspect not, on both counts.

Missed four takes but succeeded on the fifth with a dry. Gorgeous 10” brownie and blessed with sunshine if a bit windy.

First time on this stretch and I loved it what a great bit of the Usk! Sunny scattered cloud 18-20oc so quite warm at times . Annoying strong downstream wind did its best to mess up a few dry fly drifts!
I ended up with 2 Browns on the nymph fished beneath a Klink small about 6 inch. Lost 1 on the nymph and had the best of the day on the dry fly superb colours nice dark spotted Brown trout nearly 10inches took a CDC Elk size 16. There were a good number of rising trout at times which was good to see and fish for. Unfortunately I found a dead Bat hanging from a hook attached to another 2 flies and orange indicator. Shame especially as it was in an easy to reach place to retrieve .
Will be back soon as I really liked the beat.
Thank you

Cracking morning 15 Chub biggest 5lb 6oz average aroung 4lb, 3 Barbel largest 9lb 4oz and 7lb and a baby nice to see that the young fish are coming through all falling for hair rigged 8mm spicy sausage used Hinders Hemp and sooaked pellets to pre bait a few swims and fished in order. It would improve the fishing if a few more swims were cleared on the meadow part of the beat as there are clearly a good head of fish still a beautiful place to spend a morning.
