With the river high, very coloured and still rising I didn't fancy my chances much but went ahead and gave it a go. I had the Barbel (6lb ish) at around 10am and lost another one in snag around 2pm. The track here is very steep but my 4x4 just about coped!

Fished 5 swims between us which we've caught from on the last 2 trips this month without a bite between us despite trying our standard feeder tactics for coloured water and multiple hook baits. River at 2m plus of minus all day, with good slacks, flow and colour, everything looked spot on for a few barbel. However the big influx of water the day before must have been very cold as the water temperature was 3 degrees down from last week and the report from Saturday. This is the only explanation I can think of for the blank day, my first on the Wye this year and first ever on MHC.

Lovely early morning start. 2.5 degrees! Drove up through torrential rain so a pleasant surprise. Started off in the meadow - not a nibble. Moved up to the woods and got 2 chub mid morning. One 4lb, one 3lb ish. Then the river began to rise with yesterday's rain coming through. It rose 1 metre according to the Ross gauge over about 6 hours. No more bites

River very high and rising through the day, but weather lovely. Found some slightly slacker water at the bottom of the beat and managed three chub all over 4lb.

A tough day on a rising river, water levels came up by at least a metre, a continues persession of branches, tree trunks & logs passing by. Had the whole beat to myself which was brilliant for £10, found 6 swims that were fishable though only close in due to the pace of the current further out, all fish caught on pellets & feeder tactics one from the lower section & two from the upper section last thing. Brilliant sunshine most of the day a pleasure just to be there catching a Barbel was the icing on the cake
