The river did drop a bit over night but then throughout the day rose back up higher than the day before. We decided to bait and wait in a couple of swim to get the best out of them, managing 2 barbel for are efforts. Swim access and management is pretty poor still, banging in silly bits of timber as step barely in the ground doesn't give you much confidence walking down in slippy conditions. And a few older productive swims downstream have been left to grow over, not giving you many options.

Not the best conditions. River rising and charging through. Lots of debris and tree branches and trunks coming down. Then the wind and rain. Hey ho - it is November. Chub were small. The other 2 were roach. I met Stefan who was very helpful. Thanks Stefan Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Four Grayling up to around 1lb. Trotted maggots at the footbridge swim. Saw a stoat and a resident deer at the upper end. Great little river.

I was not hopeful on arrival at 11.00am; very strong winds, driving rain, and a rising river with large branches and debris coming down. The river actually looked quite intimidating and I wasn't expecting to stay for long. Casting close in to a relatively slower flowing area resulted in a largish eel after about an hour which at least saved the possibility of a blank but every cast was collecting debris around the line and to be honest not particularly enjoyable fishing. A move to a second swim netted another eel and then in something of a lightbulb moment I tried fishing a Mr Crabtree eddy between overhanging two willows and within 10 minutes the rod pulled round resulting in an 8lb barbel. This was followed at regular intervals by another 5 good barbel all in superb condition, the largest a shade under 10lbs (my PB), the smallest around 4lb caught just as the light was fading on literally the last cast of the day and counting to a hundred. One of those magical angling days that don't come around too often (for me anyway). Just great. Thank you.

Booked to get on here in the summer primarily due to the massive head of good chub (booked way back in Nov 2021) only for it to fall during the low oxygen closure. This was the next available for more than one person. Was looking great up to Tuesday evening but came up a metre overnight - good on other WUF waters but apart from the bottom swims (the island one we couldn't get to) it's a bit straight when really high. Steve in the bottom swim had 3 barbel 4 to 6lb. Paul had a 4lb chub halfway down the straight and I managed to snare a late barbel of 6lb by the boat. Groundbait feeders and an assortment of hookbaits. The heavens opened at 1400 to leave us drenched with one of the worst drives I've ever had to get home. We will do it all again though...

Nice to back on this stretch of the wye after a few years not fishing it, weather prior to are trip was not in our favor with lots of rain bringing the river up and a lot of debris downstream. Well i say debris trees between 20ft -30ft were regular flowing past. The fishing was a challenge bites hard to come by but did manage 2 good size chub fishing in the slack calmer water.
