It was a nice surprise to see the river rise a few inches overnight and the fishing didn’t disappoint after a last minute booking. The trout took a while to show up, but there were big shoals of grayling in the beat today. Most of the grayling were good size adult fish 10-15”, although they were surprisingly absent from many spots where you would expect them to be at today’s water levels. The trout tally included half a dozen between 11/2 and 2lb which started to show serious interest in goldhead PTN’s and flashback nymphs early in the evening. Various emerger patterns also successful earlier in the day. All fish quickly returned. I didn’t see any sign of any salmon moving through unfortunately..
A couple more layers needed today, but a lovely autumn day’s fishing.

I fished the croy at the top end of the fishery from 12.30 to 17.00 following a recommendation from a friend. The river conditions were very low and clear along with a strong downstream wind and rain which made trotting difficult. Had I been able to stay a little longer I may have fared better.

A tougher day than yesterday. Three rods on beat two fishing off the various shingle banks. There was a reasonably strong flow augmented by strong gusts of wind and peppered with occasional squally showers. All rods fished with pellet and feeder. Whilst the river has been and still is low following the very dry summer there are plenty of holes and channels to explore. Breakdown of catches as follows:
PG 1 Barbel 4lb & 1 Chublet
JH 4 Chub
PA 2 Barbel 6lb & 4lb

3 Barbel, 5 Chub
