Tough day's fishing.

Zero rises and the trout weren't as interested in nymphs as usual. Plus I had to leave the river at about 1600 so I missed the evening.

Water level is very low.

I found this beat quite challenging for an evening's fishing. There was a gusty, cold west wind and the river was quite brown from earlier rain (I hope!). Plenty of water in the river making for interesting wading, but not much sign of hatches or fish feeding. With overgrown and steep banks, access to the water was tricky and difficult to cast upstream for a right hander. The "no access" sign on the bottom parking, is quite high up and more visible when coming down the track, than going up. It looks as though this should be great trout water - I will try again in better conditions!

River very low. Concentrated on the southern section. Very few flies flying and few rises. Tried nymphs and kept catching good sized shads.

Stayed at the Pantry B and B in Erwood. Excellent and right next door to the Wheelwright pub so short walk home after dinner.

River blew out after rainfall the previous night. But surprisingly, fished well on nymphs during the day/ afternoon. Evening was decent for dry fly despite chocolate water.

Activity quiet, some fish topping below bridge, 2 x takes none landed. Much quieter in early afternoon when sections above bridge tried.
