River very low and the day warm, 20deg and mostly cloudless and windless. Began at about 1330 and fished until 1800. Fish caught were mostly in the deeper faster runs and riffles. Due to low water conditions all fish were caught on dry fly. Black Klinkhammer #16, elk hair Caddis #14 and para Adams #16.
Trout between 12cm and 18 cm.
I fished an 8ft rod but ideally one should fish not longer than 7 as mostly in overhanging trees.
Accommodation at The Seven Stars at Aberedw is very pleasant and convenient for fishing this river.
I had a very enjoyable day. Thank you to the Fishing Passport.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen big chub in such huge numbers ,at times you could count 70 to 80 basking, mostly 4 to 5 pound fish. Thankfully we eventually caught some Barbel in the late afternoon/early evening.
Thanks WUF

Very very hot and bright day made fishing tough. Most pegs on this stretch are hard to access with very steep banks and limited river access once down. We fished the gravel beach section on the lower part of the beat. Managed to winkle out 2 barbel and 6 chub between us, with one blanking and another only getting a small chub all day. Fish were hard to come by. We would appreciate more pegs being better maintained for access on this stretch.

Hot sunny weather and a very low coloured river. Lots of little Chub, 2 Barbel late afternoon. Hats of to the Bailiff or Landowner for the preparation of the swims, brilliant job.

Fished this beat a few years back and had meant to return, finally managed to for what turned out to be a very good day, one angler had 6 barbel and 15 chub whilst the other had 2 barbel and 4 chub. Fish were visible throughout the stretch - mainly chub but we did also see some barbel flash by the middle croys. Salmon also crashing around all over the place! Most productive swims were the pylon run and the furthest upstream croy. Very well looked after beat, had a good chat with Glynn and very interesting to learn about the work that goes in. Went for lunch at Lucksall campsite cafe. Weather was warm and sunny and with the river as low as it was we didn't bother taking any photos, best to get the fish straight back. Best barbel was likely 7 or 8 pounds, best chub around 4 or 5, a few chub of a pound or so. Tactics a mix of standard feeder or trotting the float, the croys providing a great platform for that and the gentle upstream breeze aiding presentation. All in all, a very good day! Thanks to Glynn and WUF. A last word about the track down - we did manage it ok in a bog standard saloon car, just be careful and go slow. It was very dry though, might be a different story in wet conditions ...

8 Barbel, 19 Chub
